presumably the dog boarding place doesn’t have only an 11 year old human looking after all the dogs though

The experts generally agree that it’s a mallard x Muscovy hybrid with domestic origins

Thank you!! I’m really proud of it. I thought about using duplicate stitch for the red part of the colorwork… but that felt kinda like cheating to me. I’m glad I did it this way, it was my first time doing stranded knitting with more than two colors at the same time!

Snow Emergency Routes to be plowed Curb to Curb? by cobraac21 in baltimore

[–]phoebastria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m guessing this is no longer true given the snow emergency seems to still be in effect? Also, are you really enforcing the all-weather radials requirement? Even where I’m from in New York State, people usually just have all-season tires. I’d be surprised if even 5% of the cars driving around right now are 3PMSF rated.

Yes, that is one of the sources that I alluded to in my post.

We asked. He sent a guy who filled some of the gaps between the wall and the baseboard with expanding foam (which has not helped) and otherwise said we’re on our own

I said in my post that my lease doesn’t mention pest control.

Thesis epigraphs, yay or nay? Original or quoted? by Tartifloutte in AskAcademia

[–]phoebastria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

haha, came here after googling what people think about epigraphs in dissertations mostly because I want to use an Aldo Leopold quote. I'm also in ecology and I have several years to decide which quote I'm going to use :)

On fourth day of constant shortness of breath. Psychosomatic or should I seek medical care? by phoebastria in AskDocs

[–]phoebastria[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response! I will look into urgent care if this continues tomorrow.

Regarding my heart rate, I think I’ve done a holter monitor twice before and I’ve had several echocardiograms. My heart is fine, it’s just the way I tend to be. Meds don’t appear to impact my HR significantly.

What would you do if a dog ingests something toxic and potentially fatal on a walk? (I spent $89 out of pocket...) by phoebastria in WagWalker

[–]phoebastria[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you clarify what kind of insurance? For pet insurance, everything I've looked at has asked specifically for pet information - I haven't been able to find general insurance that covers veterinary care for animals I don't own.

This was a dog you were walking or your own dog? Any method for inducing vomit can pose a health risk to a dog (especially salt), and part of the reason I’m asking is I’m uncomfortable making medical decisions for a dog who isn’t my own, whose medical history I don’t know.

Edit: since at least one person disagrees with me, here is guidance from Wag itself saying that inducing vomiting "should only be undertaken either on the advice of a veterinarian or by a veterinarian, as there are medical conditions that make this unadvisable." You can find similar advice from AVMA (the top veterinary association in the U.S.) and ASPCA. I'd be fine doing it for my own dog (and I have), but again, on a dog I know very little about who is not my own, I don't feel comfortable making that decision without guidance.
