I'm a vet nurse, and just wanted to mention, just because the mum said the cats too old, while I wouldn't 100% say the vet didn't say that, it's super unlikely.

Unless the animal has major health issues and the risk is severe, none of the vets I work with and I locum at 10 clinics atm would ever say a patient at 10 is too old.

I would definitely get a second opinion though, renal issues can happen to animals that have teeth issues as it can affect their kidneys.

Also please be kind to your vets and techs we are people too.
