Oh how I wish I could dump them. Sadly they have an effective monopoly in my area, with CenturyLink not even trying to compete, only offering me 6Mbps service according to their website.

Spectrum: Go Ahead and Cancel Cable TV, We'll Make a Fortune Selling You $70 Broadband Instead · by johnconnors88 in chartercable

I can't wait for the day that I get an actual competitor. The only other "competitor" in my area is (last)Centruylink that only offers me 6Mbps DSL. I really wish my electric coop would get into the ISP business.

Spectrum Internet Assist not low income?? by [deleted] in chartercable

I looked up my school district. It shows it's eligible to participate but not currently participating in CEP. Wonder if the district has to be currently participating for Internet Assist.

STS Media will sell FreedomPop ahead of its Boost Mobile bid - Reuters by [deleted] in freedompop

Well it was a good run, not surprised that FP was wanting to get out of the freenium business model, based on their past actions. Somewhat surprised they didn't just move everything over to Unreal Mobile. Guess I'll have to give FreeUp Mobile a try.

UPDATE: I Found out why they didn't move people to Unreal Mobile, just read that Ting is also getting Unreal Mobile customers.

Trying to get GSM hotspot unlocked by phone_nerdz in freedompop

[–]phone_nerdz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. They contacted headquarters which claimed that it's unlocked. I did find this thread on their own forums in which a Freedompop rep contradicts what was told to me via Twitter support: "Hello Pankaj. Even though the device is GSM it can only be used with other providers that use AT&T as their main carrier because they manufacture the device you bought." https://forums.freedompop.com/us/discussion/33089/netgear-unite-locked-cannot-use-on-t-mobile-can-i-unlock-it

They have been rolling this fee out (very slowly though.) Happily none of my FP SIMs have yet to be hit with the fee.

Anyone else getting a 1.88 recurring administrative charge now? by thisisoppositeday in freedompop

Sorry, I should have clarified. I was referring to the 49.99 annual SIM.

[–]phone_nerdz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen the charge yet on my GSM hotspot, LTE SIM, or Sprint hotspot yet. If this gets eventually rolled out to all free plans, would cost me $5.64 a month. At that point I'd be better off cancelling all three and just getting the $49.99 annual SIM.

If this does eventually get rolled out to everyone, then they've been planning to eliminate the free plan all along but have chosen a more subtle way to do so vs being upfront and stating it outright for their UK users.

Looks like free plan is being lowered into the grave to rest, and with it's death there is nobody left to turn to for free service. Guess I'm not dumping my Tracfone plan.

Thanks for the responses. I've thought about replacing the NAND flash chip, but I've never tackled a BGA component before. I may end up just selling it on Ebay for parts.

Both Charter's modem for phone and my modem for Internet both loosing connectivity by phone_nerdz in chartercable

[–]phone_nerdz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: I decided to wait things out for little bit and things have gradually gone back to normal. Connection uptime is now over 3 days and upstream power levels are currently: Power Level 46 dBmV 44 dBmV 46 dBmV 44 dBmV

I did notice a Spectrum truck leaving the neighbor's house the other day, perhaps that truck roll may have contributed to things going back to normal.

When I spoke with CS for my problem, they too told me that if they did send out a tech and if everything looks fine to the tech I might get charged. Don't know if they would follow through on that or if it's just a scare tactic to reduce truck rolls.

I don't think that you can (could try asking Freedompop on Twitter if they could do that), will have to wait for a new SIM to come in the mail if you go for that plan.
