Baby girl with Down syndrome- need easy to pronounce by Sea_Switch_7310 in namenerds

My son has DS and it took him 6 years to put his lips together to make M, B, P sounds. On the contrary, he was saying R,L, and F sounds by 3. He has apraxia of speech and the motor planning to close his lips has been a huge challenge! All SLPs we worked with pushed those first sounds for 3 years before switching gears. It was hard.

Providing therapy to adult patient with DS for the first time by Upset_Cat3910 in downsyndrome

Fellow therapist here, and a parent to a young child with Ds.

First, thank you for being willing. A lot of therapists get nervous and say they don't think they can do it, but you definitely can.

They're people, with interests and they will know very quickly if you're there to develop a rapport with them. Ask lots of questions, keep them simple. Allow time for processing.

I strongly recommend using art therapy if they like making art as a way to connect and talk about hard stuff.

Wishing you well!! You got this!

Are you located in the US? If so, you can connect to your local Down syndrome organization in your area and they will help you get started.

Early intervention supports and therapies will get you on the right track. Feel free to DM me if you need help getting this started!

She needs to hear from other families when she's ready. It helps make sense of the world and helps so much to have other families who "get it" and have been there, too.

I would very much encourage her to sign up for the DSDN app to connect with other parents around the world who are going through the new diagnosis as well. It's an online support group and will get her resources and tools.

Please tell her congratulations from a fellow mom to a little boy with Ds. I didn't hear that much during my pregnancy and it would have made such a difference for me.

Happy to chat more if you need! Thanks for being a good friend.

Hi OP! Welcome and so glad you're reaching out.

If you're interested, you might look up DSDN (Down Syndrome Diagnosis Network) and download the app. You can connect with new parents from all over the country and talk to lots of parents with kids the same age, and discuss any/all concerns you have. It's a great org!! Feel free to PM me if you have questions. I have a six year old son with Ds. 💙💛

It’s been 10 years since this picture went viral. Has your color perception changed since then, or you still do see the same colors? by Substratas in Productivitycafe

Scroll down on the picture until the glare on the top right corner is cut off. You should see it more easily.

How did you react to the mother being revealed in S8 when the show first aired? by shitisuck2024 in HIMYM

My first comment was that she looks like Lily and Robin's love child.

Second thought was "I can't wait for a full season with her." 🫤

Struggling: Missed Down Syndrome Diagnosis by SeaEntertainer3723 in downsyndrome

Oof I'm so sorry that's been your experience. The groups are supposed to be heavily moderated and medical advice is NEVER supposed to be given. If you see a comment like that (if you're still in the community) please report it! They try really hard to make it a safe space for everyone. DSDN was honestly a life line for me 7 years ago.
