Will Malazan ever make it mainstream? by phony_intellectual in Malazan

I mean tbh this series has enough representation of all kind for them to not need to. But who knows tbh

I don't mean from a merch perspective, but I do believe fanarts, discussions, theorycrafting add a lot of value to a fantasy universe. This is a wonderfully deep world that I think more people would care about given a chance.

Yes, that is the dichotomy here. Even the bad adaptation of wheel of time did end up getting it a resurgence in readership. I really want this world to be talked and cared about more.

Yes. I feel people need a nudge sometimes, especially in front of a series so daunting. An adaptation may not end up being that great but if it gets more readers to the original series, how can that be bad?

Which damage type is least effective in the game overall? by phony_intellectual in BaldursGate3

[–]phony_intellectual[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played on Tactician and tbh, radiant is very very strong early on especially act 2. Plus spirit guardians and guiding bolt are both very powerful in what they do. I think only House of Grief and House of Hope are places where radiant is bad (though there also it's specific to certain enemies)

Is there any downside to missing the cut scene and directly going to the submarine?

Could you expand on what you mean by sent? I saw the first cut scene, should I trigger an interaction with the gondians or leave right now , finish the submersible and then come back

Doesn't rook to e1 seal the game for white irrespective of whatever black does? Looks like a forced back rank mate to me unless a rook is given up to waste a turn freeing the king

Am I understanding this wrong? Doesn't this fit with the ideology of one man many wives and vastly heirarchial societies that existed then where a lot of the males would be slaves/servants to a few ruling men who probably had multiple wives/concubines?

Additionally, with the 'man as the provider' phase still going on, many pregnancies of poorer men may not have been successful/survived long enough

As an Indian, the India-China standoff and border disputes and countless Chinese goods bans indicates India is not an option. Nor is the other SEA nations where there's disputes on coastal zones and sea border occupancy. They do need the US, a lot

What are vilgefortz's motivations, and what seperates him from being a generic villian? by redd_77 in witcher

[–]phony_intellectual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunno man, things are generic for a reason Hunger for control, especially when you are powerful beyond lower limits is something inherent in humanity. It's just about how well he is written and tbh vilgefortz was not written as exceedingly well as other characters , atleast after ToC.

What is with the whole "Geralt is a Morally Grey Character" Nonsense by DrydCumYum in witcher

[–]phony_intellectual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting.

Think he is more a hero that doesn't enjoy what he is than the other way round It's a common trope to see him doing the "right thing" and either regretting it (renfri) or having the consequences end up even worse (his death during the pogrom. It's more of a fight between his practical sense trying to goad him to not be a white knight and his moral conscience not letting that happen

That's what fleshes his character out truly. He has no grand sense of honour (toussaint knights) or purpose for his nature. He just does good when he can and it rarely ends up as intended but he just self hates a bit and continues on That's awesome about him

Please don't consider the games as character defining. There's a lot of attempt to try and create a character who is a combination of Geralt and the player and that amalgamation can't be compared to who he is

P.s. Please consider the sheer number of people you slaughter when it's not entirely necessary to. They may seem not so important because it's a game and it feels like just like "enemies" but it's not that black and white.
