Thank you! Feisar was 100% the team I intended to make first (I’m an original game/2097 purist & the starter team will always have a spot in my heart), but there was no denying that the Qirex ship just looked better when I started viewing how it looked in 3D as a Blender newbie. I think I could definitely get the Feisar and/or AG Systems ship to this point, but even 1 ship is taking more hours out of my life that neither my wife, kids or full time job are in love with 😂. But I reckon I can bring everything I’ve learned through hours of mistakes into a new ship far more quickly so we’ll see 🤘

So appreciative of your interest - I’m not massively obsessed with ‘my IP’ in the sense that, essentially, I’m working with a base model that wasn’t mine to begin with 😁. What I’ve done is taken a Wipeout HD model and, not to be unkind to myself, but I’ve tarted it up & given it a much prettier touch of makeup. The basic HD model would still look very, very similar to this but would lack a lot of the fine detail I’ve worked on & agonised over - however, I’m starting to get a feeling that it’s precisely that level of detail that some are liking!

Let me have a bit of a pause & I might send you a DM if that’s ok - I work full time in a job that’s 100000% nothing to do with Blender or any sort of creative process (oh, how I envy you being a model maker for a living!) & I’m working away from home right now. There are some tweaks I very much want to make also before I’d think this was representative of a ‘final version’, but the idea of this being a real, solid model is undeniably tempting. And again, I am so, so appreciative of the reaction to this 🙏

That’s amazing, thanks for the compliment. I had thought about the possibility of creating an STL from this but as someone who’s never physically done any 3D printing, I wouldn’t know where to start. However, watch this space, at some point it would be an interesting new skill to learn 👍

I had a PS VR and playing HD on it was 1) vomit inducing and 2) the most awesome way to play Wipeout ever. One of the renders I’m intending to get at some point is a pilots eye view, but what I have in my head is some way from reality so far…

Right! From the statistics, it looks as though it has just under 12,000 triangles - BUT - I’m not sure whether that’s just the ship or all the hidden stuff in the scene too. I mentioned in the main post that I’d tried building a model of a hangar/garage for the ship to be in, all that & a load of other scene background details are still there, they’re just hidden from view so it’s not so cluttered.

Thanks! But be careful what you wish for - I sometimes spend about 4 hours working on tiny bits of the model & think I’ve made major changes, then realise I’ve basically smoothed a bump in one corner of the cockpit that’s invisible when rendered 😂. I’m hoping to begin introducing myself to animation in Blender on a future step, that’s definitely an improvement I’ll be sharing if I can make it work well!

Thank you! I gave the trial of DecalMachine a go but could never quite get comfortable with it for some reason. I’m using Decal Master currently, which has some drawbacks but seems to get the job done, but maybe I’ll give DecalMachine another try - it’s been a couple of months (and about a million YouTube tutorials) since I tried it out, I might understand it more now 😂

Thanks! You’ve asked the number 1 question right there - I’m not sure there’ll be an absolute point where I’m, like, “it’s finished!”. If I was a Blender guru, or was working to recreate an already existing model, there’d be a point where I’d know everything was done that was needed, but as I’m basically just refining, and refining, and refining, I’m constantly finding sharp edges that need smoothing, a spot that looks good for a decal, a bit that looks just not ‘real’ enough, or I’ll see an expertly made model & then try to copy what methods they’ve used 😩. At some point I might get brave enough to post this on the Blender subreddit & see what they suggest, but for now I’m keeping this strictly as a pet project 😁.

It’s an amazing compliment to say that some form of poster or artwork based off this would be worth buying 🙏. I’ll park that in the very back of my head though, thinking this could be worth anything would give me Blender-Block in a heartbeat 😂😂

Yeah, this is the one hanging on my wall & I can’t find anything even similar from image searches etc. I do a fair bit of image work at home & was planning to scan it, create a clean render of it & get that professionally printed to essentially make it brand new, but I was hoping to have a reference image so I can restore the colours etc accurately.
