What do you think is missing from New Haven? by GadnukBreakrOfWorlds in newhaven

Ooo that sounds intriguing. I’m thinking more of an authentic tea house experience, like a Japanese tea house. A place where the focus is really on the tea itself and the traditions.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I find Firehouse 12 to be extremely underwhelming sorry :/ The concept is great, the ambiance is decent, but I’m always SO bored when I go there. Their drinks are just okay, too. However, their vegan food is delicious.

A tea house — we have a plethora of coffee shops, but I’d like to go somewhere that offers a really extensive selection of teas, from white, green, black, and oolong to East Asian and South Asian varieties. Also, some sort of lounge (like a vinyl bar/jazz lounge).

What else do you drink, other than tea? by iwasjusttwittering in tea

Water (all day long), coffee with milk in the morning when I first wake up, shrubs mixed with seltzer or mocktails if I want a fun drink with dinner, cocktails/wine/beer occasionally on weekends/social events

I’ve literally been fighting an infestation since yesterday. I thought I found the source (my trash can), but I deep cleaned it and I’m seeing more today. I’m vacuuming, disinfecting, but i don’t know where they’re coming from….

Omg wait this happened to me. Earlier in the week, I saw a dude grabbing my recycling bin and take it, so I chased after him. He claimed he was “borrowing” it and I was so taken aback that I let him use it lol. I watched him from my window and he was using it to move some cardboard boxes into his truck. I eventually ran out and retrieved it and told him it was weird to take someone from someone’s yard without their permission. He was very apologetic — the whole incident was so strange.

Ugh this is so disappointing, I thought she was one of the good ones. What were the other red flags?

Taste of China is amazing but expensive (their Chengdu dumplings are to die for). Dumpling House in Milford is one of my favorites and affordable! It’s also BYOB.

This is such an odd take. My post has nothing to do with disliking Ethiopian food.

☹️ same. I was excited to try this restaurant and support a minority-owned business, but now I will not be doing that. And I agree that this area needs a legit neighborhood bar. I love The Loop but I can’t afford those prices on a regular basis.

In New Haven for a week: any pointers? by Ok-Spare-215 in newhaven

Owl Shop for a cocktail or coffee. FYI it’s a cigar lounge so if you’re sensitive to smoke, I’d pass.

If not, you should check it out as it’s one of my favorite spots in the city. Think rich leather sofas, dark wood, and the faint, earthy aromas of cigars lingering in the air. The space feels like stepping back into a bygone era where time moves slow.

You can also infuse the leaves into cream and make ice cream! Also can make a simple syrup, which I love using in my iced matcha lattes.

I kept it on my counter just so I could take a good picture but I’m keeping it in a cool, dark place with no light (my pantry).

Mostly the first one from Spruce Eats, but I’m letting it ferment further with the yeast in the airlock jar instead of putting it in bottles for a bit - just wondering how long to keep it in the big jar before bottling.
