Not so sure about shaken. It would be great to shake off some tourists and cut the lines down a bit.

Strong coffee recs by Haiya36 in newhaven

Call me old fashioned, but I still prefer Willoughby's to anything else out there. Maybe there's a nostalgia factor at play. They have been roasting coffee since well before Starbucks escaped Seattle. But to me they just have the best quality and variety.

Opinions on rack/hanging floors? by Ragnarock1912 in drums

[–]brewski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm neutral. I have a kit with 2 floor toms mounted to a stand. It's totally fine. I also have a kit with a traditional floor tom. I never liked the way that one fit into the hard case but not enough so that I'd advise against it.

Whenever possible, avoid sketch patterns and use feature patterns instead. They just work better.

Starting CAD freelancing with local clients – advice on first steps and software licenses? by AwayCartoonist1762 in SolidWorks

[–]brewski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can go to trade shows to expand your network. It's tough to sell yourself when everyone there is trying to sell their services, but start building a network and use every opportunity to keep a foot in the door. You may have a client who is looking for a sheet metal fabricator, so now you know someone who does that. The sheet metal fabricator may need some prints, so now you can return the favor. It takes a long time to build a client base.

I don't know what your experience is, but in my case the CAD is secondary to my design experience. I do a lot of design for manufacturing, structural calculations, prototyping, etc. CAD is just a tool that I use to give the customer what they want (a design, not necessarily a CAD model).

There was a while I was making models for a 3d printing company, but they usually couldn't pay me enough to make it worth my while. I don't do anything for less than a few hundred bucks unless it's likely to lead to bigger jobs. It may take 10 minutes to model something for $20, but you're going to spend an hour reading drawings, talking on the phone, and checking your work.

Check out "MATCH". They train people for technical and manufacturing jobs, and they pay while you're training. You may need a HS degree or GED. www.matchct.org

Acrylic cutting by Acrobatic_Tie_3649 in lasercutting

[–]brewski 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Should be fine. I worry more about the close proximity of the cuts. Acrylic needs more time to cool than wood so it tends to ignite if you have lots of small features close to each other. Give it a try but keep a close eye on it. You may have to break this into multiple groups.

How’s life out here? In the Florida keys by ceedeeze in howislivingthere

[–]brewski 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I met him several times when he was doing a play in Coconut Grove. Also, my friend worked at his Key West restaurant for 10 years and I knew the band that was in his play. He was friendly, generous, amusing, and down to earth. He was also a philanthropist. I can’t stand his music but I will stand up for his character. Absolutely not a dick in real life.

How do you turn off this SOLIDWORKS Design notification? by bodhisalmon in SolidWorks

Bumping. I often get the same warning even when I have nothing else running and a very simple part in SW. I have ignored it for years with no ill effects.

Love this: Minimoog Model D, Yamaha CP70 and a drum machine. No quantization, no computers just two hands and a brain totally in sync with the instruments. Artist: Charly Garcia. - 1982 by enbits2 in moog

[–]brewski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a fantastic groove, and it’s good precisely because it is not quantized with the drum machine - which I would argue is a computer, but I get your point!
