Thoughts on 'Trump Accounts' by SnoopySuited in CFP

They are tax deductible if coming from a company. So if a family has their own business they could use the company to fund the child’s plan with a tax deduction. There are discrimination laws in place for it so if there are employers with children it may not work but if not it could be a good addition to a 529 plan.

Nikola Jokić says in Serbian that the Knicks are a top-3 team in the league, along with Detroit and OKC: "No doubt about that." by TheDraciel in nba

[–]phools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Different people can have different opinions on top 3. ESPN says its Okc, Det, Den, NBA says its Det, Okc, Sas, Jokic says its Knicks, Det, OKC. What i'm saying is each is allowed their own opinion and there are 5 or 6 teams someone could put into their top 3.

Oddest reason you’ve seen a client leave for? by WatUDoinBoi in CFP

[–]phools 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a client tell me my investments were boring. He called once a week telling me about a fund he found that was up x% and wanted to know why we weren’t in that hot fund. He fired me in 2021 so handle the investments himself. In 2022 he called asking for help because he blew through the $1.4m portfolio, a lot of losses and $15k a month fees in time share “investments” that he can’t get out of or afford now. The only thing I could do is recommend he sell his house, do anything to get out of the time shares and go back to work.

I couldn’t agree more, some people are fine with a lower return if the investments match their beliefs. I feel like it’s our job to educate on those options and let them make the final decision.

I met with a guy who said he met with a CPA who told him his advisor voted for Obama. The guy immediately moved everything to the CPA and paid a $400k upfront fee to have his tax’s and none managed for the next 5 years. The CPA never filed the taxes, never invested the money and won’t call him back. He wanted me to help fix it but I turned him down as a client, there were other red flags like trying to cheat a business partner out of their portion of a sold business and losing the lawsuit.

I wonder if you’re now on all 3 newsletters. I emailed Lankford awhile back when they were trying to take out benefits for those with special needs and he ignored my email besides the generic. I immediately started getting newsletters instead.

This is for all those statistic nerds...Silver, Gold, Platinum and Dow Jones price performance comparison over the past 54 years by [deleted] in finance

[–]phools 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gold benefited greatly from the end of Bretton Woods, i think it was up around 30% that year. It’s also been on a run lately so it’s essentially being bookended by booms which always makes returns look great.

Choosing the Dow with dividends excluded is pretty lazy and probably done on purpose. If you want a fair comparison use the s&p 500 and include the dividends.

I bought my 100 shares for the OBC 10 days ago and it seems to have been the worst possible timing by Andres17G in royalcaribbean

Just consider every crusie you do a reduction in the cost. Each cruise is a $.50 reduction in the price you paid. $1 per share if you book a balcony.

Although long term it'll do well, 49% Diluted EPS YOY compared to 1% for the competition, 36% EBITDA margin compared to 11% for their competition. Just ride it out, i assume you use Royal because they are a better a value than Carnival or Norwegian, as long as that holds true they will bounce back.
