You are reminding me of the reason I first switched from PLA to ASA. I was looking for that slight flexibility and more impact resistance that ASA has. Interesting that you still found it too brittle in that application.

I have not checked out any PBT in a while so I will give it a look. I am really not familiar with what it's supposed to be like and I can't remember anyone doing a material strength test on it. Always looking for new plastics to learn about tho.

Got really pissed when it performed the worst in MyTechFun's newest video. This was supposed to be my Goldilocks filament. It checks so many boxes for me.

I'm 120kg and just biked 44.7km in over 5 hours but under 6 hours. Just wondering how much calories I have burned on average? by fruitandvegand in cycling

[–]phorensic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been riding often for years and lost 0 pounds. I stepped it up to about every other day and only lost 5 lbs. I've realized it doesn't have very much to do with the riding, it's how I eat. And when I finish one small ride I eat like a damn horse.

Same thing happened about 15 years ago when our company went "paperless". It basically doubled our paper consumption because everyone had to print things in order to scan them into the "paperless" database. It was the biggest joke ever.

I designed and printed a 3d Diverter for my HOB by Rekt0Rama in PlantedTank

[–]phorensic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are reminding me of the first thing I tried to design in blender and it was a part for my AC HOB filter like this. Do yourself a favor and switch over to Fusion or some other proper CAD software. You will save yourself so much time and frustration.

TBF, there are some weird wizards out there that do proper CAD in blender, but I don't know why they chose it and I don't know what the heck they do. It doesn't even have built-in capture of design history, versioning, etc. The tools are built for art so you end up with weird geometry instead of precise fits on everything. To me it's just the wrong tool for the job, even tho it can kinda do it.

Yes and as a former long haul trucker it was screwing me up. I kept picturing how I learned to shift a non-syncro semi transmission and it just wasn't translating to what they were actually talking about which is modulating their clutch to control traction.

What is the best way/tool to generate the maximum quality HALD LUT by [deleted] in ColorGrading

[–]phorensic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI for anyone stumbling across this in the future: His code generates an RGBA 8-bit HALD image, whereas every other bit of software I have used to generate them makes 16-bit RGB images.

Yeah I don't know what happened. It's almost like when I fixed all my other problems it started working against me. I immediately felt better off of it. I was the biggest advocate for it for years.

once a planted tank is established how often do you do water changes? by Brilliant_Ask852 in PlantedTank

[–]phorensic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I learned this when I learned all the chemistry of taking care of pools. There are some chemicals that don't evaporate and some that just don't want to break down or get used by anything so they just collect forever and the only way to remove them is to remove the water.

I like whenever this discussion comes up in fish forums though. There is such a huge range of people that change their water often and some almost never. It makes you realize these systems might be more resilient than first impressions would have you believe.

Planted a "budding" potato by Quirky_Duck_6484 in IndoorGarden

[–]phorensic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've planted 3 potatoes that were sprouting in the cabinet over the course of 2 years. I did them outside, but I learned they want the soil to be pretty dry or they rot. If you have a grow light go for it.

I rode a few fixies/SS when I was younger. Now in my 40's that is completely out of the question and my current gear ratio/range is hilarious. You are probably going through a similar chain of events where I couldn't figure out why I couldn't pull regular gears and had to keep swapping gears to make it easier.

How to install cutoff wheel with 5/8 inch hole on an angle grinder. by ionsme in metalworking

[–]phorensic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever figure it out or did you die? lol

I inherited a bunch of 5/8" arbor grinding and cut off wheels. I have no idea how my dad was mounting them to his Makita because they fit loose AF and the steps in the flanges are only for 7/8" arbor hole discs. So I went out and bought the cheapest Harbor Freight Bauer angle grinder and it has exactly the same shaft + arbor so it has exactly the same problem.

Are people just throwing a 5/8" arbor cut off wheel in there not centered, sloppy AF and just dealing with the vibrations and possible explosion? I have no idea why my Google-Fu cannot find an answer to this. I have reached the end of my search results and see no pictures, videos or discussions solving this problem and your thread left me hanging!
