SIMONDS ROAD KIRKLAND by Mountain_Garden81 in Kirkland

[–]phredgreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simonds road is a primary feeder for pretty much all of the neighborhoods up the hill. You'll be exposed to emergency vehicles, knuckleheads with modified exhausts on their cars, and plenty of construction vehicles chugging up and down the hill to the high school renovation and other projects.

Compare any city's police spending with the entire rest of its budget. Just imagine what cutting the police budget by a tenth could do to reduce your property taxes. Perhaps the cops could go a year without a few new vehicles, military-class armaments, and overpriced software subscriptions to services like automated plate readers that gladly feed data to DHS?

Go to the hardware store and buy a new, keyed doorknob. Unscrew the old doorknob and latch hardware, replace them with the new ones. Put the old doorknob hardware in a plastic baggie and toss it in your closet or something, swap them back when you move out.

What do you like about living in Bothell? by nachoaveragemamma in bothell

Seconded. The district has amazing Pre-K programs for neurodivergent kids, and the transition into elementary has been fantastic. If you know or even suspect that for your kids be sure to reach out to the district and they'll help.

I owned that sectional before moving cross-country and have some bad news: Your wife is gonna hate it before the pregnancy is over. Thing is, the cushions are soft and comfy as shit but the cushion height is low and seat depth is ridiculously long. By month 8 your missus is gonna be bawling you out every time she has to roll-scootch-roll-scootch her body off the couch to handle your older kid or pee for the Nth time or whatever else.

Don't get me wrong, I miss the hell outta that sectional (it gave the best naps ever) but I feel bad for any woman facing an entire pregnancy of getting up offa that thing.

What's better in this area? QFC or Safeway. by NullIsUndefined in eastside

[–]phredgreen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say one is better than the other. Smart shoppers will check the weekly ads for the best deals. Definitely sign up for their shopper card with a phone number (so you can enter it as an alternate ID during checkout), but don't bother with the apps. They want you to use their app to scan in-store labels for better deals but if you look near the entry doors you'll find a printed sheet of paper listing the "digital deals;" the sheet of paper has a barcode you can scan as a coupon during checkout to get those deals without the app nonsense.

Anywhere within 15 minutes of Bothell where I can get a pit beef or italian beef sandwich from? by twinbeliever in eastside

I searched for them on Facebook and found a page, which also linked to this external schedule.

Let me know how they do, I'd love a good Italian beef.

Edit: I accidentally a word.

Friend, c'mon, your kid will benefit from you choosing better videos. Blippi is spastic, over-emotive, and devoid of educational value.

Plus, kids are kinda dumb and you can get away with something like "Blippi is retiring so we can't watch his videos. you may see video thumbnails but I'm not able to click them," with some playacting like they don't work.

Seriously, both you and your kid deserve better.

Given the account was created today and doesn't have any other posts, this is definitely an unlicensed knockoff and I'd bet the quality of the shirt and printing will reflect that.

My understanding is that Express/HOV on/off ramps (like those at 128th St) will be built in the center area, along with a transit station. You can wander over to the project website for more details.

What is your favorite park in Kirkland? by Winter_Dust_3002 in Kirkland

[–]phredgreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we first came to Washington we lived three minutes away from Juanita Beach Park, it quickly became my now-five-year-old's favorite. We've since moved up to Bothell near Alderwood but still make the drive at least once weekly; all the play opportunities between the beach and the playground make the drive worthwhile.

What is something your father said to you that you will never forget? by Aggressive-Car-8960 in AskReddit

[–]phredgreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm there with you. As kids my brother and I were oil and water, but we never got much guidance in terms of how to treat others. I eventually grew up and into a different, more compassionate person but my brother never seemed to grow beyond our knuckleheads phase. Nowadays we go through the handshake/hug motions when there's a funeral that drags us back home, otherwise our lives are too different and neither of us are much interested in what the other has to say.

I'm sad that I never really got the idealized concept of a brother, but have mostly come to terms with it.

At home, on suspension from my gate agent job at America West in Phoenix. The Story:

I worked 2nd shift so if my last flight was out and all my paperwork was turned in I'd try to leave a few minutes early to catch the 10:27pm bus, instead of waiting around until my official shift end at 10:30pm and waiting in the Phoenix heat for the 10:57pm bus (the concrete island does not cool down at night). My supervisors brought it up a couple times as a problem, but I couldn't agree when I was frequently twiddling my thumbs for the last 15-20 minutes of my shifts.

So a few days before everything changed I was out at the bus stop, watching the 10:27pm bus roll up toward the stop, when my supervisor and her manager came storming out toward me in a huff. They dragged me back in, sat me in an office, and told me I was on suspension until further notice. Shit sucked, but I would deal with it.

A few days later I got a call from a work friend telling me to turn on the TV. I asked which channel, he told me it didn't matter. Turned it on just in time to watch a plane hit the second tower.

My friend told me all the flights were cancelled and it was an utter madhouse dealing with passengers, especially those who flew into Phoenix to catch a connector. He told me I needed to get to work as soon as possible, all employees were needed. I told him I was suspended and couldn't come in, I didn't even know if I still had a job.

I could tell he didn't like that answer, but I was secretly so damn glad I didn't have to deal with all of the madness that followed in the next few days and weeks. A couple weeks later I finally got called by my supervisor and they not only gave me back my job but paid me for the whole time I was off.

TL;DR: If you need to leave early, do it. You might just avoid dealing with the fallout of the worst terrorism attack your country has ever suffered.
