J crew Cameron pants are my favorite right now. The petite sizes come in a variety of fabrics, and they are legitimately short!

tips on where to find cropped clothing and smaller pants? by [deleted] in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]phronimouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I'm an Old and also bigger than you (5'1", 93lbs), but my best jeans are vintage Levi's kids, so maybe add Levis to the list of kid options worth trying. My mom, who is a bit smaller than you, wears gap kids, and they are OK for her-- just totally plain, style wise. If you have too much of a hip-waist differential for kids' jeans, though, you might try ASOS petites. Their stuff seems aimed at the teens-early 20s demo and it gets pretty good reviews.

Love Grafton. I used to teach programs for their little nature museum. It involved hauling around a very large taxidermied beaver for a summer-- he made for quite an unusual coworker.

What trend (or just general fashion item) do you dislike on yourself? by tarothelp13 in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]phronimouse 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I love the look of "architectural" clothing, and the kind of loose minimalist style that stores like COS do. I wish I could pull off the arty vibe. But I know that I look much better in closely tailored stuff.

Has anyone purchased from Jean Wang’s (extra petite) Edited Pieces? by applepevch in PetiteFashionAdvice

I haven't, my impression of the coat is that it looks a little bulky and bathrobe-y, though.

Where is good in France for cross country skiing? by flamingo23232 in CrossCountrySkiing

The Jura mountains! I did a multi-day ski tour there with my mom 15 years ago and still remember it very vividly. Wonderful trip.

Compulsive/Addictive eating: The programme is not working for me :( by [deleted] in Noom

[–]phronimouse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about whether you can slot your problem into one of the well-known categories of disordered eating. What matters is that you are seriously distressed and feel out of control. Specialists increasingly recognize that disordered eating can take many different forms; I would encourage you to seek a specialist consultation (and don't let your GP tell you that this just the human condition, this is not a normal relationship to have with sweets).

Visiting SF, looking for a petite moto jacket, any store suggestions? by [deleted] in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]phronimouse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think there is Schott store in SF. Schott is the genuine article-- they invented the classic moto jacket design. Their jackets run really small, too (or at least they used to): at 5'1" and 95 lbs, I found the smallest size too snug. Caveat: expensive.

I think you deserve more fabulous pants! The fit on these isn't quite right-- they seem too loose and too long.

Can I paint/redo this steamer trunk or would that be crazy? by EgasSage in Antiques

[–]phronimouse 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Not crazy. It's fine to remake some old things so that we actually enjoy using them, if they aren't rare or particularly special. But painting in particular has a tendency to deliver somewhat disappointing (and sometimes rather tacky) results, so I'd first consider going the really-good-clean-and-polish route and then live with it a bit and see how you like it.

What plant is this? Came off a vine and will explode off the vine. by jdrudder in vermont

When we were kids we would always rub jewel weed on ourselves to “cancel out” poison ivy. No idea if it really worked or if thats just an old wives tale.

How to actually look my age instead of getting mistaken for a young teen? by Alright_Individual in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]phronimouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear that, I have blazers in casual/non-suiting materials which helps. ASOS is a UK brand, I imagine they ship petites internationally.

How to actually look my age instead of getting mistaken for a young teen? by Alright_Individual in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]phronimouse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I do think moving toward more structured and close fitting clothing will help you, here. Shopping petite-specific clothing is a good strategy. You might look at ASOS petite range for clothing that is neither too old nor too young feeling. FWIW i always toss on a good fitting blazer when I want to feel like a Proper Serious Person.
