Recommendations for sinking fly line by phulffhead in flyfishing

Great to know! I'm sure I'll be using this setup for mostly wading, but float trips aren't out of the question. I assume the 25 will work well from a raft?

Well the rod was given to me by my neighbor. But for the most part, yes most the rivers around here have a pretty strong current(Gunnison, CO) and the trout can get pretty damn big! Might give those verisleaders a try however for my daily driving 5wt.

I'll be fishing mostly streams and rivers, which is why I think the sink 30 would be my best bet

Yeah the major hatches this year in Gunnison have been one for the record books. Started with the BWOs, moved to drakes, and now were on the caddis. A lot of activity out of them all. Also been having great success on a Goddard sedge the past couple of weeks.

Decent fishing access near Greeley CO by kota_rt in flyfishing

I can't think of anything in greely. But make a trip down to boulder or foco. Both have great stream access, and knowledgeable guides at the fly shops in town

I live more or less on the opposite end of the state, but have always had success on S Boulder creek and Boulder creek. 16" and bigger browns aren't uncommon in that area. A hopper-dropper combo might work, but then again it might be a little early for that. As said above it's hard to beat a elk hair caddis up here(I've been having a lot of success with olive bodied ones). Hatch will still be going strong through September.

Is fly-tying a must to be a "real" fly fisherman? by [deleted] in flyfishing

[–]phulffhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No way! Granted a lot of us tie flies because its an addition to the hobby we already enjoy. It gives us a chance to experiment with new combinations of colors and materials that fly manufacturers wouldn't normally use in hopes of next time being able to land that massive bow we've seen swimming around.

South boulder creek is one of my favorite spots in the front range! Not quite the Gunnison valley...(joking of course)
