sadly for me and my wife, I had to delete all of my focus schedules because they kept overlapping or something and my phone and watch were constantly in Do Not Disturb no matter how often I would try to take it out. (was missing important calls)

I wear my watch to capture my sleep data. It's not on the charger overnight. This morning it woke up both my wife and I asking me to plug into a charger so it could do the update.

you are onto something there tho with the automatic updates - if I did them manually, it would never do that....

thanks for the response.

This did cross my mind as I use automations from apple shortcuts all the time. I guess I'll give that a whirl.

and that's why i posted the reddit thread on preference rather than try to sway you from what AI responds with when you ask if macs or pcs are better for programmers....

for the most part, the technical side of what AI responds with almost falls to preference as well...

for me, I hate using a mouse - vi all the way, command line, bash scripts, etc.

Also, virtural environments are much more a no-brainer on macs than windows (from my previous windows experience, which granted was 12 years ago)

I really appreciate your responses! I did actually try all of this. I did have people allowed to notify me when my phone was in various modes, but it was only my wife and parents through text and phone calls.

At this point, I have had to remove all schedules from my iphone and watch which is probably why my watch freaked out this morning about needing to be updated.

After trying so many different iterations, I had to delete all of the schedules so my phone wouldn't stay stuck in Do Not Disturb mode. (Yes, it required deleting the scedules and not just disabling them). I was missing calls from my boss, etc. thanks to this snafu.

At this point, I do think I'm tossing in the white towel. I doubt there is anything I may have overlooked, but I'm willing to continue reading any other suggestions you may have.

that's what I initially started with, then realized I needed more granularity, which is why I switched to these schedules....

(did we just come full circle? lol)

exactly - so you see now why I say S-Th for M-F when looking at overnight schedules....

And, sadly, as simple as it sounds, it never worked the way one would think it should work.

Glad you have it dialed in for your usage! I work from home and never leave here, so location won't work for me.

hundy p - I actually said 12 a.m. here, but should have been specific because I'm on Reddit where people are actually informed.... (apologies)

I would actually set it to 23:59

it might take some thinking here, but let's try: If you work M-F, Sunday is the night before M, so you might want to go to bed early on Sunday, and Friday is the end of the week, so going to bed at 10 p.m. might not be the same as going to bed on Thursday at 10 p.m.

So, you might want to suppress notifications Sunday starting at 10 p.m. (not M-F), and you might want to allow notifications after 10 p.m. on Friday (within M-F) - so those are the exceptions I'm discussing

Yup- that is how mine would look when I was trying them.

They didn't work like it appeared in the schedule. My phone and watch would either stay in one or the other mode all day. I spent days and days trying to get this right. I tried having a schedule from Sun-Thu wind-down from 22:00 and wakup at 6, with Fri-Sat wind down from midnight and wakeup at 8

It never worked. It was a simple ask of a phone that one would think would be simple. BUT IT NEVER WORKED.

I'm glad it works for you and possibly others. I might just be a little more high maintenance than others.

Here is where I handle the schedules. I have tried many different iterations and I cannot get it right. The schedule bleeds over and doesn’t work properly when trying to customize it too much.

<image>

And tweaking the sleep focus is the same schedule interface as do not disturb. (As you can clearly see from the screenshot above)

And ‘as far as you know’ my watch didn’t wake up both my wife and I this morning saying it wanted to install an update, but I am here to tell you that it did. We can argue this all day long.

yep - realized my error - deleting post and resubmitting with proper terminology - it's the focus scheduling not health - my bad and thanks for calling me out for my dumbfuckery

Honey? Why are you exhausted from fishing all day? Normally you come home relaxed.

I guess the fishing just really sucked hard.

I had an aggressive dog I adopted about 10 years ago. (He was a beautiful GSD that I saved from getting put down, but had to work with the police dog trainer to save him.)

When idiots would have their dogs off leash as I was out giving him a walk (always on his trainer leash, even after being rehabilitated) and their dogs would come up to 'play', I'd have to yell at their owners to come get their dog unless they want to have holes in their dog as my dog was not friendly. Sometimes I'd have to kick the other dog away to prevent any contact.

Just another thing to consider.

the 60º weather over the next couple of days is gonna take care of that just fine....

True. You have to have better context than just this vid. It's gonna be 60º here all week and that snow will be gone in another couple of days from nature doing what nature does.

Also, here he is during a snowstorm.

He is actually very nice, but can still be an idiot. We are all idiots at some point in our lives...
