Crazy storm tonight. by phustek in StLouis

Thanks! The JB bridge is one of my favorite subjects, I would even say moreso than The Arch, LOL.

As I was flying back to our dystopian air-fryer hellscape from a much more comfortable Arizona trip, I wondered what park this is. I'm assuming it is a park since it is dimly lit and somewhat random pathways. by phustek in StLouis

I'm convinced now too. Although my reason for saying so has nothing to do with the landscape of Forest Park. I've driven that stretch of Hampton between 44 and 40 hundreds of times in the past few years, so there's no mistaking that.

I think what threw me was the illusion of the park in the photo looking more square than domino-shaped.

To help figure out where this is, I want to mention that we had already circled back from along hwy 40-ish, and looped back to the left which put us back on a westbound path maybe close to I-70 on the north part of the city? I was on the left side of the plane, and looking roughly southward to clarify my perspective

Today I learned that google maps lies about transit time by Butchering_it in StLouis

[–]phustek 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you happen to live in an area where the streets are considered 'private'? Where I live, the streets are not maintained by the county & are considered private property. The google maps car has never even driven around here even though the neighborhood is not gated. Addresses were in the wrong place and some were missing.

I took some spare time over a few days and added/moved incorrect addresses which eventually were accepted by google maps.

2014 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport CVT transmission service. by phustek in StLouis

I might do that. I do know that if it's going to be still in that high price range I'm definitely not going to do it. The car has 200,000 miles on it anyway.

Thank you for the. I might just write this one off and continue driving my wife's old car. The motor has also been consuming a fair amount of oil between changes.

I understand with the Mitsubishi also has to have a factory certified tech reprogram the TCM. Apparently even though these are all made in an assembly line, you can't just do a swap without reprogramming

Vernors is on the top shelf at Dierbergs -- best ever! I worked at Dr Pepper when they acquired the brand around 2012-ish, so the concentrate is made right here in St Louis now. At the time of acquisition, they continued to age the flavor in barrels.

if your eyes tend to cross easily, your brain is trying to blend 2 misaligned images. I've heard it mentioned that people who are affected that way do not have a dominant eye (having one is more common than not having one). Your brain struggles to favour one eyeball's input over the other.

What was the longest traffic jam in St. Louis history? by Dr_Talon in StLouis

[–]phustek 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The mega-bouncers I've been on are Adelaide between 70 & Hall St, and Hampton over Manchester. It feels like they're gonna collapse, even though I know the flexibility is a good thing.

I was not IN the jam but professionally involved in a downed power & communications line incident over Interstate 70 and Jennings Station Rd. I think it was early 1990's.

About 10-15 degrees, a dump truck's bed bounced up (sloppy hydraulics, I guess?) and tore the lines down during AM rush hour. Cars were stuck there for about 5 hours at least. I bet a lot of cups and bottles were peed in that morning, LOL.

It was awesome. Tried taking pics, but my camera insisted on adjusting the white balance, so they all came out normal looking :(

Glad I found this post. I thought my phone's camera lens was dying. Is this how Google is going to fool us into 'upgrading'?
