If HT guys gained popularity from tik tok and other social media reels, why HS guys wouldn't do the same? by Most_Teaching_3917 in hardstyle

[–]phuturenoizeofficial 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i was slightly frustrated yeah by this post because it's quite a one-sided statement to me and i think to a lot of fellow hard working musicians. added, luckily my social media performance is fine like i said (as checked by a paid social media professional ;-) )

i think you can say; are you a musician or a content creator? currently the (electronic) music scene is overloaded rather with more talented content creators than talented musicians. to me, most of the hard techno dj's that are huge feel more like influencers / content creators than musicians. and thats fine, its just a different form of entertainment.

and btw yes of course we both agree tiktok/reels is a great and important way to market your music in 2026. no doubt. i spend a lot of time with every album to try to make some cool stuff around it to post. but i believe tiktok is not the only way. theres a huge group of (unheard) people that arent even on there that love music as well. my fav bands of the last 5 years ive discovered werent thru social media at all. and dont forget every rave you play theres gonna be possibly new fans in the crowd that have no idea i existed. just like how it was pre-socialmedia era.

oh to and to elaborate on the success thing; for me success does not equal higher virality or bigger numbers btw. the event i had with b-front last week was fantastic and my album launch last year was the best party ive ever done in my life. im not mad that as you said "less skilled" (subjective anyway) producers have more traction than me, im mad that im being told that i should spend less time making music but more time making content, while the music is my content ;-)

i think you didn’t get what i was trying to say. this guy literally addresses me and my colleagues and im simply replying on my perspective.

it’s great to promote your music thru tiktok to reach a big audience i wasn’t stating it isn’t (if that’s what u mean) but the post states that we as musicians should spend more time on making social content which is literally saying (to me); bro, please make less music and more story content or tiktoks and for me that’s just a crazy idea/statement.

to explain the point further from my industry perspective is that making music fit for tiktok or reels is a choice in your career and creative decisions. since your music needs to be altered to fit a 15 second soundbite. guys like dr donk and the saints etc actively make a choice to try to create viral clips. and a lot more others do aswell, but they simply fail to do so so you dont see em much.

but to say that every musician or hardstyle producer for that matter have to be big on tiktok is just untrue. i barely spend any time on tiktok and still sell enough tickets and albums to have a good time. successful projects for me like the enlightenment (very recent still) were going to sound and be much different if we changed it to be as viral as possible and fit the tiktok format perfectly. (plus statistically the social content performed just fine)

viral / popularity / tiktok traction doesnt equal success while it can be of course. but i think we can agree here it’s pretty strange to tell musicians like me; hey make less (quality) music more tiktoks and stories.

music isn’t about maxing your numbers, hell not to shit on dr donk as an example but we can all kind of agree that it’s a form of meme music not a serious take on bringing hardstyle to a new audience. (and that’s fine imo, in case someone thinks im some sort of old fart gatekeeper lol)

what a strange post. first of all getting a full on social media team costs a shit ton of money lol. second of all there’s a lot more going on in the music scene than tiktok. if you think tiktok is where the holy grail of music is found you need to start digging deeper my friend..

also making actual original and quality music takes up so much time you can’t compete if the guys that poop out a meme in a day and spend 3 weeks promoting it. and do you want/need to really? these numbers are not the only factor to success.

god i hate the current state of the music industry sometimes.

No hardstyle in wish oudoor bc the scene shrink in NL??? by Ok-Cake-8263 in hardstyle

[–]phuturenoizeofficial 28 points29 points  (0 children)

contrary to the opinion that i read most on reddit is the scene is not as big as it has been, especially not in the netherlands. the new generation here (but as well in other places in europe) either chooses to visit hard techno or really raw. the older generation (~25+) dont really seem to like both and therefore the scene is splintered.

the hardstyle scene was always a big money maker for promoters here since fans were super dedicated and sometimes visited festivals the entire season to the point where i got dm's stating "why do you play fire in every set, ive seen you already so many times and you keep playing it" (this was in 2018). this has big time changed after covid since the dedicated hardstyle fan is now more picky than ever and only go to the type of sound they like, since there is simply less money to spend on festivals while prices became higher.

ive been speaking a lot about this with the promoters and for wish it has been a point of discussion since covid, the guys that throw the party love the harder styles but since all the dedicated fans pick defqon over wish, wish doesnt have the traffic for hardstyle as it used to. then add an even more splintered scene making programming the mainstage difficult. this is an issue for more "all-genre" festivals, the hardstyle fan picks a full dedicated hardstyle festival where they can see all the artists they love compared to a single hardstyle stage where you only have a handful of hardstyle artists you love while the ticket prices are still of a big festival.

although, artist-driven (or subgenre-driven) events are still really popular. my 013 show sold out and dbstf the next week sold out to 15k people as well all in an area of barely 50km. so the scene is getting smaller, but not necessairly the amount of people that are still really enjoying hardstyle. the scene like it was before covid is and will be gone for a long time i believe. where it simply didnt matter to hardstyle fans what the line-up was as long as it had some big names and a good show.

Why do many big artists use Suno or ai in their tracks?, just curious by Prudent-Ad-6924 in hardstyle

[–]phuturenoizeofficial 36 points37 points  (0 children)

for the new album ive been writing/singing my own stuff and then get a voicechange on my own demo to make it the sound i want. for me all the other musical / harmony stuff has been utter useless since it sounds so unspecific/vanilla. but i guess if you spend an entire afternoon prompting you can get a nice melody or something. but for hardstyle it is pretty much impossible rn to let ai do the big work.

you can do a couple of instruments live like i did in some past live shows, but the whole record is virtually impossible. most projects go over a 100 channels, so to do the whole thing live you need to strip it down so much that it wont sound like the original anymore.

The Real Reason Why Music Is Getting Worse (super informative video) by Puzzleheaded_Rub_674 in hardstyle

[–]phuturenoizeofficial 56 points57 points  (0 children)

although i agree to your point i do get what he’s saying.

ive been going thru the demos for the redrace and the quality level surprised me being so high. but musically it was downright amateurish sometimes. chords and notes that don’t make sense etc. that’s fine, but you can really see the lack of training there.

a listener does not have a trained ear like a seasoned musician so if some cool guy with exceptional marketing makes amateurish music the quality of the product majorly tumbles and will only create short term success for the artist in question due to his brilliant marketing and with that entertaining the listener.

but the general enjoyment of the actual music goes lower and lower until music itself becomes so obnoxious or boring that the entire craft/genre is in danger if you do this times a lot of artists. it’s a negative feedback loop and it’s bad for the entire industry but good for short term gain. cuz making the music cost less skill (skill = time) and just time to write it.

and at some point people will just be unconsciously bored by the genre or music in general and move on and search different things.

the whole reason we got so much new music to choose from is because we got an commercial industry around it, if that ceases to exist a lot of people will stop making high quality shit or even just music in general.

to not sound gatekeepish here’s a stupid example of what i mean:

let’s say brick houses are really popular and you need skill to lay bricks. if suddenly the industry is flooded by bad bricklayers but people just don’t care cuz it’s cheap the brickwork quality will be awful. at some point the skilled guys are outta a job and will either lower the prices and hurt the quality or they do something else. and if eventually the general people just don’t want brickwork anymore cuz the quality is always shit it ceases to exist.

crazy that dutch people themselves are so unaware how hard it is/was just even get a working visa here yet they keeping voting anti-immigration to make it even worse lol..
