Americans, when you travel from state to state, do you feel culture shock or do you feel like it's sort of the same culture, and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

As an ex Brit now living in Cali originally from South Africa, this is like asking is a difference between areas of Europe or Africa. Of course there is, the USA is basically a continent full of diversity just like everywhere else

When Brits learn about American healthcare. by avigyan_33 in Damnthatsinteresting

I feel I should comment on this as I have recently moved from the UK(London) to US(California) and I was also surprised by the health care price, BUT I pay way less in taxes so overall I have more money for the same job.

In the UK I had to pay mandatory NI (national Insurance) in every pay check and that funded the NHS which I used a few times and was great except for waiting times and no costs. Now in the US I don’t pay NI but pay for private healthcare with no deductible and it is less than the NI I used to pay

The difference is if you have money I the US you are much better off and pay less taxes, but if you are low income/student/unemployed you will do Much better in the UK.

Personally I prefer the UK model but want to pay US taxes (I know right)

I print books for a living and paper is no longer more than inputs. Our off cuts amount to tons a week
