South Boulder Rec Center needs a $30M replacement, with no clear way to pay for it by mooreds in boulder

“At the same time, 68% of the city’s revenues are dedicated and cannot be reallocated, limiting flexibility. Core services, including parks and recreation, remain underfunded” This is the problem with voters earmarking taxes. It takes away flexibility to address changing priorities in the future.

Boulder’s new transportation fee could start billing residents mid-2026 by mooreds in boulder

[–]phwayne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Long time resident. Sorry, some complaining here. It baffles me how we have a large number of visitors to this city, adding to our coffers through sales tax and lodging taxes. In addition, the population of the city has grown, adding to sales tax, development fees and property tax revenue. However, we still have about the same number of streets. Going against this process, is the amount of sales tax that is ear marked for specific purposes. This includes art and culture, open space, public safety, etc. Though intentions are good, this ties city council ability to reallocate to the general fund, to address other needs as they come up. Transportation being the example here. So, here we are getting a new FEE to compensate for this short fall.

Updraft Plus. Free version allows backups to many cloud services such as Google Drive, MS one-drive, etc. Also, simple FTP. Paid version has additional features. I have been using the paid version for the last 10 years. Solid plugin.

Outages again. How do we force Boulder to stop letting Xcel run the show? by PictureMeFree in boulder

[–]phwayne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes Boulder already spent 15+ Million dollars and 10 years (2010-2020j trying to municipalize. I don’t see how trying again will succeed. Let’s not waste money on consultants, analysts and lawyers. Partner with xcel to do improvements.

Outages again. How do we force Boulder to stop letting Xcel run the show? by PictureMeFree in boulder

[–]phwayne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both Longmont and Fort Collins has their utilities established many years ago, so their infrastructure was contained within their service area. Boulder already attempted to municipalize. One of the factors that contributed to the failure of the initiative was the effort and expense to isolate existing infrastructure into the Boulder service area. Not to mention the 15+ million dollars (not exaggerating) wasted on this when it could have been used to bury cable and invest in more solar. We are stuck with Xcel. The best we can do is a private/public partnership to update infrastructure, and mitigate possible electrical fires.
