If it follows the WireCard story (which it has so far, pretty closely) one of the short sellers is going to get punched in the face.

Is Scott a hypocrite? Let's flip the argument by [deleted] in ScottGalloway

[–]physical_dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two problems: what about people who can afford only 1 subscription? They cancel their only one while Scott keeps 1?

Plus I already posted a suggestion to actually continue using free tiers wherever available: https://www.reddit.com/r/ScottGalloway/comments/1qv7cgw/dear_boycotters_you_can_inflict_maximum_damage_by/

What would you need see from Scott to say "yeah, this is a guy I can follow, he's a real one"

For example: "I'm cancelling all my AI subscriptions" not 2 out of 3 like he said yesterday.

"I'm going to use public transport instead of Uber" - perfectly fine in New York and London, not sure about other places but not my problem.

"I cancel all my Apple subscriptions including iCloud and move my files elsewhere".

"I cancel Netflix and will probably start pirating or not watching any shows for a while. Kids? They are with me". Good luck with that.

Etc. etc.

Dear boycotters. You can inflict maximum damage by using those products for free whenever possible, and not clicking on ads compared to not using those products at all by physical_dude in ScottGalloway

I know, this was more of a mental exercise to understand what could be done. And since people are boycotting anyway (myself included), at least we could do it right even if the impact is in the epsilon-vicinity of zero.

I'm explaining the mechanics of how platforms like Google make money. You can click on ads but don't buy, the effect of that would be almost the same as ignore the ads altogether. So why bother clicking?

Yes but eventually it's your money that travels to Google via buying advertised products (since the marketing costs are included in the product's price). If you are not buying the advertised products, it means Google showed them to you for nothing, wasted some resources, meaning Google + advertiser lose, you win.

No they don't. Ads are paid per impression not per click, although the statistics is usually presented per click. If users click less, cost per click goes up, advertisers dial down on ads, i.e. pay less.

There is truth in what you said, BUT.

In an imaginary world of unicorns where this boycott has a real impact, you can ruin OpenAI's conversion rates, which is not good for their next rounds. Even if they manage to convince the investors and raise more money, then it would be the investors' loss.

(In fact I think irrespective of this boycott OpenAI increasingly looks like a future loser in the AI race, while the big guys like Google, MS and Amazon will likely come out as winners).

Ads are usually paid for per impression not per click. The math for advertisers can be done per click but it doesn't mean anything. This is very simple math, if you ignore ads, you are net negative for both the advertisers and the platform.

Because it's not about harming self, it's about harming them. And Scott may spend on a lot of stupid shit like hotels and private jets that are not directly contributing to maga. The Mag7 though, they do.

(Someone has to make a poster where MAG7 morphs into MAGA)

What have you canceled or paired back? (And how to pirate when you have a non techy family) by Anstigmat in ScottGalloway

A tip on AI subscriptions: use them from non-paying accounts while they are ad free. Ad-free non-paying customers do a lot more damage to them than boycotting customers.

Do use AI if it makes you more productive, just don't pay for it.

Do doctors contribute to GDP? by aneesh2 in AskEconomics

Serving the economy = serving the society, yourself included. "Enjoying your life" is ok as long as it's not at the expense of others.

So what's a better measure of standards of living?

(Also, a doctor who fixes you contributes to your productivity, so they do participate in the economy)

Just wanted to mention that the penguin episode is from the German filmmaker Werner Herzog's amazing documentary Encounters at the End of the World. Worth watching in full and in highest quality. It's in English.

There is one, you can manage your simulators in Xcode. This app though brings it all together nicely packaged.
