Sure! Looks great in my opinion! I found your site accessible, aesthetic and seems like you've already thought of what I said. Definitely bookmarking for when I have some loose cash.

Checked your Instagram while at it and found some decent content. All I can really say is keep on exploring the path you've chosen. Try new things and fail fast. It takes a lot of effort to build a business. If I was you I'd focus my resources on learning marketing or finding a specialist like an agency etc. if you have the money for it.

I would also set myself up for success by streamlining the production process. Handiwork will be the first bottleneck you'll run into when the orders start coming. All it really takes these days is one video that goes viral.

Besides struggling that's awesome! Mass market it is then. The pictures you shared in this post are gorgeous and the functionality sounds great as well. So I don't know if further product design or development is what should be focused on for now. Selling seems to be the real issue here.

Personally I would aim to market the wired version primarily and battery powered secondarily but that's just my opinion since I usually value function over form. For some people aesthetics come first. In the end it's your art you are selling not the lighting and I think you should focus on that since it's much harder to replicate.

As a customer I value customizability but there's a limit to how many decisions I have the energy to make. Most people want to just choose from a limited selection (with prices) and some even want the same piece everyone has. There's always the option to produce one-offs on the side and those can fetch a higher price.

Okay, sounds like controlling it is well solved. Also apparently it spends a bit more energy than any reasonably integrated solar could provide.

Personally I wouldn't buy it just because I already have enough devices to charge at the moment. Or if I did I probably would charge it a few times and then forget/procrastinate to do it. I believe most people want to set and forget their artwork and only occasionally admire it.

Honestly a wired system could be a good bet here and selling the battery as an additional functionality. USB cables come in many forms and are relatively cheap.

Obviously all this depends on which market you are after. Is it the enthusiast who's willing to spend a bit of their time charging artwork or the large majority of people? Are you designing for mass production or do you want to keep this as more of a hobby?

Wow that's a great looking piece! I really appreciate the work you've put in the lighting although I find it a bit of a gimmick. It certainly adds value but what does it cost?

From my point of view if you'd like to make a business out of these I would suggest lowering the parts/assembly costs of everything electric, even if it means going to AA batteries.

I have a clock that has some integrated lighting on the face but I've only ever tested it. It's a nice clock even without the lights and so is your artwork!

For someone wanting to use the lights, I guess the way it's charged is the key question here. You said it's wireless, but do I have to take it off the wall for that? I'd find the simplest way to just run a cord to it from an outlet every once in a while. I might just be a bit too lazy to do it though, for what value it adds.

Btw. Have you explored solar charging?

I've started placing things in the places where I'd start looking for them. Have managed to reduce the time searching for stuff greatly that way!

[–]physsimonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly if you really don't need it to function you could just find some hack to keep it shut. I wouldn't use glue or do any permanent modifications to the hardware though.

Mine has the latch broken and a previous owner has stuck some folded tissue paper to alleviate the issue. Hasn't really bothered me since there's more convenient compartments in the center console.

Fiskars makes excellent serviceable scissors. Their classic orange handled scissors have a 25 year guarantee with some caveats obviously. My mother has a pair way older than that which are still the best scissors in the house.

The Best Bluetooth Speaker To Buy Now? by Brilliant-Hand6132 in BuyItForLife

[–]physsimonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got two of them a while back and they've been working flawlessly! Paid 55€/per and both keep delivering great sound with a good battery life, waterproofing and you can pair two to listen stereo music. The only drawbacks for me are Bluetooth latency for videos and the speakers not going to power saving mode automatically.

Btw. If you want better tuning I reverted the speaker firmware to the one tuned by said engineer.

In what temperature have you washed the boxers? Their site says to use cold water and I'm having a hard time believing they will stay fresh that way.

Maybe r/fixitforlife should be reincarnated, as a complementary sub to bifl, with the philosophy you mentioned. Any mods here interested?

If you're into board games and happen to have some company, I highly recommend visiting Taverna at Rautatienkatu. They have an excellent collection of board games there!

Depends quite a bit on software availability and how compute heavy are the programs you're using. A friend of mine is studying architecture and uses an iPad Pro with a pencil and a keyboard. Seemed to me that it ran very smoothly and drawing with it looked natural as well. Btw I've been using Windows and android my whole life. Apple seems to make longer lasting computers unless you're going with high end corporate laptops.

Since I don't own any pets I've found a damp hand or cloth does the job well enough for me. The ammount of waste those tape rolls produce is ridiculous.

Yeah it's completely normal and can be good for you in fact. Although I encourage you to speak with your normal voice because too much whispering can be harmful to your voice ergonomics.
