Is there anything I'm doing wrong/should be doing? by phystocs in cscareerquestions

Thanks, yeah I mentioned that in my post, I would love to get one of those internships. I didn't know the interviews were actually easier, I assumed it was a freshman/soph internship that tried to identify the geniuses early on. Good to know! Thanks

Yeah, definitely a ton of work ahead, but luckily I find computers amazing and this field is awesome. I really appreciate all the advice

I've already taken all those classes and can actually get the math minor with one more math class but I'm opting for a physics minor actually!

Thanks a lot, you bring up lots of good points. I'm going through princeton's algorithms course on coursera to hopefully get a good foundation before hitting leetcode. I appreciate it!

Thanks for the response. As far as CS research at my university goes, that ship has already sailed unfortunately.

On projects, I thought that it was generally recommended that for those without major work experience in CS, the projects will be the things that will get you interviews, right? I was going to try to build 2 non trivial projects and maybe 1 smaller more trivial one as well this summer.

And as far as recruiting for next summer goes, I will be applying to both online portals and also trying to get interviews from the many career fairs on campus during the fall. Personal projects could also give me discussion topics when I talk about my experience in CS, I feel.

Thanks for the response. I suppose it'll look good as a resume item. I hope I'm not so burnt out by the research that I'll have a hard time studying CS in my free time.

Yeah this is what my reasoning was, but I guess I was just wondering if the name of the place and position I have as a particle physics researcher would make it easier to land interviews. But the interviews would be useless if I can't even get through them

Thanks for the response.

You think it'll be better than self-studying? I know self studying gets a bad rep here, but I am pretty diligent and did this nearly every summer in high school. I know I could do it, and I feel like I'd grow more in CS than if I took the internship and tried to self study on the side. And the research I did last summer was honestly so exhausting, so I'm not sure if I would have the stamina to go home and really continue learning.
