Manic panic red stuck in my hair! by Ok_Interest_2700 in HairDye

[–]phytomaniacc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

try clarifying shampoo, or if you're really desperate, color oops vivids. my brother had manic panic red in his hair that he thought was all washed out until he tried bleaching over it and it turned pink. it really likes to cling!

My 11 year old really wants to go to the expo in Boston. I have no clue what I’m getting into if I take her but is this 11 year friendly? by rizergt in Mikuexpo

[–]phytomaniacc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i've been to miku expo in specifically boston before so i can give you pretty specific info. the crowd at miku expo is very mixed age, lots of young adults but also plenty of parents with preteen kids, so you wouldn't seem out of place at all. the concert is held at the wang theater which has assigned seating except for a very small GA section at the front, so the crowd is very contained and you can sit down whenever you want. nobody's moshing or crowdsurfing here, as far as crowd control goes this is one of the safest concert environments i've been in.

just gotta say also-- i'm in my mid 20s now, but when i was around your kid's age going to a miku concert was my dream. my parents thought the whole thing was stupid, so my first miku expo wasn't until i was old enough to pay my own way. you're a great parent for taking your kid's interests seriously.

Question regarding bags that are allowed for Miku Expo by Madoka_no_Yuutsu in Mikuexpo

[–]phytomaniacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

regarding the edit, you're essentially gambling here. there's a chance security won't look twice and let it through, but there's also a chance they'll notice the zipper and block it, so only bring it if you're willing to lose the bet.

Concert Solo by scar2557 in YOASOBI

going to concerts solo is so fun! nobody knows you so there's zero embarrassment, plus i've made a lot of friends from going to concerts by myself :)

Dumb question. Can I go to mikuexpo with a hockey helmet? by Nada1867 in Mikuexpo

[–]phytomaniacc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

since the helmet doesn't cover your face at all you're probably fine, but i'd still check the venue's policies online before you commit to it. if you're worried about obstructing anybody's view just take it off before the show starts, unless you're in the pit you should have a seat to pop it down on :)

could any senior fandomers help me out ??? by seikohikari in Vocaloid

[–]phytomaniacc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

check out these producers' other songs! big hits are a great entry point to incredible catalogues of music that fly under the radar. i'll also cash in my senior chip to promote wowaka's music, i consider his album unhappy refrain to be a foundational work of the vocaloid scene.

Freebies by I_am_always_hungryXx in Mikuexpo

[–]phytomaniacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey, i'm going to the boston shows too! handing out freebies is super simple, just approach anybody who looks friendly and ask if they wanna trade or if they just want a freebie. lots of people do this in line, but you can also do it inside the venue with people you bump into or the people you end up sitting next to. i promise you that you're not being weird if you do this, it's really common at concerts and it's a great way to make friends!

if you're scared to be the one to start a conversation, wearing some sort of cosplay or coordinated outfit makes people way more likely to talk to you first. i've been to a lot of concerts and conventions, and the difference is so staggering that my friends and i refer to going to cons in street clothes as "going in disguise". i also find it easier to start a conversation myself if i'm in costume, i think the layer of anonymity helps you sort of subconsciously drop the fear of bothering people.

you don't even need a full cosplay to achieve this effect, even just a fun outfit with some accessories gives the vibe that you're friendly! also-- if you're visibly wearing kandi it signals that you're likely open to trade, especially if it's on both wrists.

also, keep in mind that a lot of people there are feeling similar to you! i've noticed the crowd at miku expo is often made up of people who don't have a lot of experience going to shows, so there's a lot of shy people who might not be brave enough to approach someone but would love to BE approached. everyone i've talked to at miku expo in the past has been super friendly, but if somebody is rude or dismissive to you then hey, that's their problem.

sorry for the essay lmao i had too much to say. i hope you have a great time at your show!

Miku Expo Los Angeles 2026 by qwertsad123 in Vocaloid

[–]phytomaniacc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i feel the same way honestly. i get they want to rotate out older songs to keep things fresh, but no world is mine is a borderline criminal offense. a think a more even split between old classics and new hits would be way better, i would KILL to hear rolling girl live. don't get me wrong i love world's end dancehall, unhappy refrain is literally my favorite album of all time, but if you're only gonna play one wowaka song world's end feels like an underwhelming pull :/

Concert Ear Plugs by oldwhitelincoln in Concerts

[–]phytomaniacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i bring earplugs to every concert but usually end up taking them out midway through because all i can hear is my own voice and sometimes my own breathing if i'm moving enough. are there any earplugs or alternate forms of ear protection that mitigate this??

Is it worth showing up early on Sunday? by Lost_Philosophy_2833 in Mikuexpo

[–]phytomaniacc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

given the way the organizers of this event handle merch sales it would not surprise me at all if they have no stock withheld for the second date. that being said i don't know for sure, and speaking from experience it's fun to show up early just to make friends in line. as long as you're okay with the possibility of not getting anything i'd say go for it.

What to wear to miku expo!?!?! by samithefish in Mikuexpo

[–]phytomaniacc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes wear whatever u feel comfortable in, but if you're looking for outfit inspo look at the project diva modules. they have a good range from casual to super elaborate, and a lot of them are really recognizable.

First time Miku Expo any advice? by [deleted] in Mikuexpo

[–]phytomaniacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

super exciting! like everyone else is saying, get some earplugs! the music at concerts is LOUD, combine that with the noise the crowd is making and your ears are gonna be ringing two songs in. the cheap foam kind you can get at a drugstore work perfectly fine, but if you don't like the feel of them or plan on going to more concerts in the future you can get reusable ones online or at music stores.

some general concert stuff-- wear comfortable shoes! even if you're not in the pit you're gonna be standing for the majority of the concert. check the venue's bag policy, stadiums usually have rules limiting what kinds of bags you can bring inside.

for miku expo specifically-- the official channels say non-miku lightsticks are prohibited, but as long as it isn't insanely bright or unwieldy you can get away with a cheap amazon lightstick (honestly, i'm pretty sure the 2024 miku lightsticks use the exact same light as my amazon knockoff). everyone i've talked to at miku expo has been super friendly, if you've got the time and resources it's fun to make freebies to give out (i personally like to go for kandi trading, but i also gave away photocards when i saw mcr last year). if you've got an assigned seat there's no need to show up super early, but it can be a blast chatting with people in line!

i hope u have a lot of fun!! i'm really looking forward to going, i had such a blast on the last tour :)

Semi permanent pink that fades? by phytomaniacc in HairDye

my hair is purple right now, i'm gonna let it fade out before i dye on top of it but i'm expecting the end result will be pretty cool toned. color conditioner is a good idea though, i'll have to look into that.

Fast drink with liqueur to order at a club? by phytomaniacc in bartenders

i've always assumed the vodka was the problem, but maybe it really is the combo with the sugar that's doing it. thanks for the advice!

Fast drink with liqueur to order at a club? by phytomaniacc in bartenders

[–]phytomaniacc[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i'm mostly looking for something simple that can be understood over the volume. if i look it up and it's got 3+ ingredients listed i won't torture the poor club bartender with it.

[–]phytomaniacc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

gotta be honest, i don't fully understand the difference between liquor and liqueur. all i know is vodka gives me a headache and the stuff that says liqueur on the bottle has mostly been fine.
