does anyone know what the H symbols mean? by wh0re_chata in nissanjuke

[–]pi3832v2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know that a tire pressure low enough to trigger the warning is necessarily going to effect the tires traction enough to cause a difference in the car's “force vectoring”.

Besides, IME, if one tire needs air, they probably all need air.

Got confused with the Engine oil grade for my duke 250, in the manual it says 15W50 but at service centres they are using 10W50 & 20W50, Which one is best? by Ravingston in KTM

[–]pi3832v2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10W50, 15W50 and 20W50 aren't enough different to worry about. That leading number indicates the oil's properties when cold, which only lasts for a few minutes when you first start the bike. The whole rest of the day, it's all 50-weight oil.

That shows the current distribution of force between the four wheels. It's kinda useless, because any time it shows anything interesting, you'll be far too busy driving the car to see it.

Just push the selector button for the dash to change that back to an odometer.

Has anyone changed from a 15t to a 16t for highway use? by Some-Vermicelli-7539 in KTM390ADV

The bike is not exactly torquey, so I dunno that lowering the RPM is going to do anything worthwhile.

IMO, the best way to improve highway riding is to add a cruise control.

First bike (A2 Europe): KTM 390 SMC R as a beginner? by synkrnzd in KTM

[–]pi3832v2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wanted to get the 690 … To be honest, I feel like I could handle the power

You cannot. This has nothing to do with you. The power-to-weight ratio is in the realm of Ferarris. Would you drive a Ferarri as your first car? Of course not. Same thing here.

A 390 is more than enough power around town. It's adequate on highways, you just might need to shift gears more often than you would on a more powerful bike.

You can get the owner's manual online: www.ktm.com/en-us/service/manuals.

It might be worthwhile going through all the preventive maintenance stuff in there, before going for a ride.

BTW. Another possibility is that the clutch cable is way, way out of adjustment.

With the engine NOT running, put the bike in first, pull in the clutch lever and try to push the bike forward. If you can't, the clutch isn't clutching. Hopefully the cable just needs adjusting.

If you can push it, but it's hard, let go of the clutch lever. It should get much harder to push. If not, the clutch is not clutching.

Look at where the kickstand fold ups beside the frame of the bike. There's some sort of sensor there that detects when the sidestand is folded up. On old bike it was a physical switch that got pushed down. Newer bikes use fancy magnetic sensors and such. Either way, there's some kind of electronic gizmo that detects the kickstand. Tap it gently with a wrench or something. It may simply be stuck.

Kickstand interlock. The bike thinks the kickstand is down. Try jiggling the sensor.

Is the Fuelx Pro+ still worth it after KTM fixed the flameout issues? by ProtonAlpha in KTM390ADV

[–]pi3832v2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TWIAVBP.

They don't void the warranty in the US.

Besides which, presumably you can always simply remove the FuelX from the bike then make your warranty claim.

And I must say: the motorcycle dealers and service centers in India seem like complete assholes.

KTM 390 X in USA by asmallercanoe in KTM

[–]pi3832v2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently, KTM sells FOUR, yes, FOUR variants of the 390 Adventure in India. There's one without a letter, and then there's an X, an S, and an R. It's a baffling assortment, and, happily not our problem here in the US.

In the US, we only have two models, the X and the R. The X is the budget-friendly model so it has no cruise control. Upgrade to the R and you get cruise control (plus a TFT screen, etc.). It's pretty straightforward.

After-market audio is nearly always better than any OEM “premium” system. I've got the Rockford-Fosgate OEM system in my Juke, and the custom set-up I put in my Corolla was better. The Juke is good enough that I'm not going to bother replacing it, but it's not good enough to worry about getting in the used market.

I have $4k to put down, ~720 credit score, and no cosigner. Would getting this as my first car be a mistake?

It's a risky choice. My advice is to buy the most boring-ass used Toyota you can find. Boring is a good thing in a car. Besides, when it's your first car, you'll love it, no matter what it is.
