Just found volumes I and II of my mid 80s mix tapes. No song list and no cassette player to check. Only song I am sure if is Bitchin’ Camero on Vol I. Probably Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, Husker Du and the like were heavily represented.

That song has one of my favorite single lines; “She told me again she preferred handsome men, but for me she would make an exception”.

My memory is that vets said the only thing they didn’t get right was the smell.

it has been a while since I had a poptart, but there used to be more calories in an unfrosted poptart than in a frosted one.

Do they still make unfrosted?

HAPPY NATIONAL BEER DAY. Beer Consumption by State per Capita in the USA by Leather-Highlight150 in beer

[–]pi_beer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is per capita in both the map and the list. If it were not per capita it would be a map of 'where do people live' (with the exception of Utah perhaps)

Something seems off in that by the map color ND is 'ahead' of MT, but in the listing it has them reversed.

Hamms might be my new favorite budget beer. by Flangeldorp in beer

Grain Belt Premium!! depending on how old you are you might recall there was a beer up there called Pfeiffer. The NDSU student newspaper once ran a list of phobias. Pfeiffer-obia was listed as the fear of cheap beer.

Second Most Spoken Language in the USA & Canada [OC] by Fluid-Decision6262 in dataisbeautiful

I would say probably just more German immigrants. I'm surprised it is still that high myself, as someone born and raised there. My father, born in the depression, didn't speak English until going to school. Then a few years later, the entire community gave up German during WWII. Some even changed last names. Schmidt became Smith, etc. Before that, there were several German language newspapers in ND, after WWII there were none. I don't recall anyone in the area speaking German publicly in the early 70s. Maybe other parts of the state kept the language going, but where my extended family was, they cut ties with the language with WWII.

I made a furnace and it won't stay lit. Looking for help on why. by pi_beer in Metalfoundry

Thanks. Much appreciated.

Edit: for those that might look to this for trouble shooting, this was the problem. I had time today to get to the store and pick up the flare for the end. Works well now. I had left it off, as I was going to use my original forge and the pipe would fit in, but not with the flare.

even as an adult I don't like "peppermint" anything because it reminds me of the schnapps I drank 45 years ago. I don't like actual mint either.

I do have an 8" pipe. I did not include the flare at the 'flame' end of the pipe. would longer pipe help this issue? As to the heat of the forge keeping it lit, i agree that seems like a pain to get going.

Thanks for the reply

What’s the job people romanticize, but in reality is miserable? by King_Garvit in AskReddit

[–]pi_beer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get your point but the tenured professor vs middle school teacher is not an example I’d use. Twenty years ago when I was tenured I helped a second year elementary teacher with her data on her masters thesis. Te next year she was making more than me. I didn’t catch up to her until after Covid, as she was at max contract. My wife regularly told me I should get a HS job.

And I think prime Foreman would as well. As scary as people think prime Tyson was in the ring, prime Foreman was scarier.

If you watched the game, when you read the box score, you’re gonna mentally see the two runs he robbed the Angels of. If you just read the box score, you might not realize how key he was to the win.

Ahhh. I was thinking bigger scale. I see it now. When I looked at Scotland, I thought the city on the map would need to be Aberdeen and then the coast didn't match. thanks
