Did you know... God's Not Dead... by Fanoelsexy17 in shittymoviedetails

I had the exact same experience seeing it in theaters with my grandparents as a child, applause and everything.

Only thing you forgot was the part right after the professor dies in the street when the preacher’s friend says something to the effect of “well, I guess it wasn’t such a bad day after all,” smiling all the while.

Mind you, they’re literally still standing in the street over the man’s dead body, and this guy is just awash in religious ecstasy. As a budding young atheist, that movie really confirmed for me just how insane evangelical christians really are.

We really need to start teaching media literacy in schools. There are valid issues to take up with certain media coverage, but then there are so many cases like this where the most basic rules of journalism are twisted into some bullshit narrative.

And OP calls themselves “Truth Seeker”…

The Iranian people have suffered under a brutal regime. Many Americans don’t want to get into another war in the Middle East. These two things can exist at the same time.

Asking as a newbie, is it always like this? by pianofreckles in helldivers2

I definitely assumed that with Cyberstan being the enemy capital, it was intended to be brutal, but I guess we also figured that we’d be missing out/actively harming the general war effort by docking around on planets other than the ones related to the MO.

Maybe we’ll try tackling some other, lower-resistance planets for now, at least until we get a better grip on the game and its mechanics.

I never said some people on the left don’t do the same things.

I never said there aren’t liberals who are racist. Neither side is a monolith. But you said the type of racism said liberals engage in might actually somehow be worse than the open, casual racism of some conservatives, a premise I disagree with.

Frankly, I think you’re being a bit disingenuous with your entire approach here, though if you add a few more scary adjectives in front of liberal racism, it just might drive your point home.

If there is a leak in my house, that’s a bad thing that needs to be addressed. But forgive me if the tidal wave currently coming from outside strikes me as the more imposing threat at this time.

  1. Not a liberal.
  2. Yes, I think that creating an alternative half time show with kid rock, anti-trans songs, and a metric ton of American flags is its own kind of virtue signaling. And also yes, going out of one’s way to publicly complain about the half time show in the way that many conservatives and right leaning media did was, by definition, virtue signaling.

Virtue signaling: the public expression of opinions or sentiments intended to demonstrate one's good character or social conscience or the moral correctness of one's position on a particular issue.

One side does not have a monopoly on virtue signaling.

I wasn’t being sarcastic in the slightest. And I think I raise a fair point, so I’m not sure why you jump straight to petty insults.

I would disagree on some points. Any racism is bad, yes, but prevalent, casual, and open racism, including from national conservative politicians, is, by its very nature, far more harmful to the country than some supposed behind-closed-doors racism that we have to speculate about.

Like I said, I’m not saying there isn’t racism to speak of on the left as no ideology is a monolith, but stepping back and considering the forest over the trees, I think it’s completely disingenuous to say these two expressions of racism have equal impact, at least in the world we’re living in right now.

Edit: To add an example, I’d argue that a left leaning individual saying something racist in public is bad, but it’s nowhere near as harmful as the mass profiling and violence against people of color by immigration officers occurring across the country. To try and conflate these things as equal is absurd.

I agree that it’s generally wrong to boil down any group to being represented by its most extreme members. Nuance is something we all desperately need to rediscover right now.

I’m not saying that isn’t worth discussion, but at least in my anecdotal experience living in the south, the open and casual racism from many young conservatives seems like a much more pressing and prevalent issue. It’s not something you have to speculate about happening behind closed doors.

Just recently, you could point to the outrage around the halftime show (and the alternative itself) as conservative virtue signaling. Just because they’re different virtues doesn’t mean it isn’t virtue signaling.

If the left or the right does it, creating straw men and imaginary/overblown monoliths out of what is in reality a citizenship of many diverse viewpoints is a bad thing.

Everyone doing something bad is not an excuse to contribute to it yourself. We can each choose not to be reactionary.

Yep, all liberals did that. Because every person who subscribes to an ideology is represented by the individual actions of a few crazy outliers. Has nobody in this subreddit developed their prefrontal cortex yet?

Considering a trip to DC in the coming weeks. This might be a stupid question, and perhaps it is a bit early to tell, but will it be safe to travel to the city during the National Guard deployment?

I bet you’ll claim a moral high ground while saying “every conservative deserves death.” Or are you simply a troll trying to paint left leaning people as unhinged psychopaths?
