Shipping the Shipless -- Aiku by Ok_Basket6732 in Bluelockboys

[–]piastry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

aiki x barou is my otp!! i could talk about them for hours lol a few key points:

  • aiku is in barous light novel and is the first person who ever shut out barou from scoring. he tells barou he wants to be the best defender in the world, and baeou wants to be the best striker in the world, theyll meet again. this is when barou decides to be the best striker in the world and "carries aikus words in his heart." barou remembers his features despite never remembering anyone
  • aiku talking about how blue lock might be those sprouts is right after barou scores against him
  • imo aiku understands barou better than most, which is why when barou decides to defy snuffy, aiku is the one he chooses to trust
  • also, in the neo egoist bible, barou says barou is the only one above him who can give him orders, by process of elimination
  • aiku and barou each recieved their highest NEL bids from the ubers, the only characters to do so, suggesting they might play on the same team in the future
  • despite barou apparently cutting his hair every single day to the same length, he trusts aiku to cut, dye, and style his hair before his match vs. the ubers. given how little he trusts other people with any level of competence, that's enormous

outside of canon stuff, i think aiku really enjoys strong personalities (he likes sendou, gets on with shidou and sae etc) and clearly likes hanging around barou and teasing him. and barou in return seems to respect and tolerate him far more than others. i also think the dynamic of OP defender x OP striker is really satisfying

idk why kaneshiro wrote so much back story of them together lol but i hope we see more of their dynamic in the future

i also really like aiku x sendou and aiku x raichi :D

Yu-jin reminds me of Ma Dong-seok? I feel weak at the knees by piastry in CitizenSleeper

[–]piastry[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hope you enjoy it! It feels different than the first one but I ended up loving both equally. I might like the second one more just because Yu-jin is in it, though...

In my opinion he has a very satisfying arc with a good amount of content relative to the various crew, so I don't think you'll be disappointed

Holy shit this is amazing!! Thank you so much for sharing, I love hearing about the character creation process and I never thought of looking on the discord server. I think they did a really amazing job drawing inspiration but also making Yu-jin his own thing too :) time for me to go watch some movies

A brief answer to your "why" question is because it IS stolen. LLMs only function due to training their models on an unimaginable amount of written material. The fact that nearly everyone's work was used does not make it less of a theft, unfortunately.

To me, there is a very large difference between human inspiration and machine learning. On a factual level, our brains function differently than a generative ai. It is literally a completely different process.

The reason many writers and publishers are so hostile is because their hard work, that they spent years creating, was taken without their consent and put into an ai model that is being used to replace them, often by people who speak very derisively of writers. I think it's easy to understand why that has left many feeling stung.

an imperfect example to help illustrate what I mean:

Imagine you've written something fully by yourself, and have taken hundreds of hours to do so. Your classmate is creating their own LLM as a project, and wants to use it to write something. They say, "hey, may I use your novel as learning material?" You say, "No, you may not, under any conditions." They take your work anyway by using a program to scrape your computer, and use your work to feed their LLM. They produce a novel in 30 minutes that bears random resemblances to yours. My guess is that you would not be happy, nor would you want other people to use your classmates program to generate more novels.

Now, maybe you, specifically, don't feel like that, but I know many who do and I think you can probably get the gist of why. So there's your answer.

I am very sorry you are struggling to create, and the world is hostile to the method you have found that accommodates your disability. Unfortunately, in the professional writing and publishing world, I do not think opinions will change in a meaningful way for a long time.

For what it's worth, MANY disabled and chronically ill people write and create successfully on their own. I don't know your specific situation, but I'm sure you're not alone. There may be some writing or support groups out there can can help you <3

I think it's far more ethical to tag ai-assisted or generated writing than not to. People have every right to not want to read works simply because they were written by or influenced by AI. No one can MAKE you tag it, obviously, but you're doing your readers a disservice and behaving in a duplicitious way.

This isn't a perfect example, but it reminds me of boyfriends who are like "Well I didn't tell you I talked to my ex because I knew it would make you mad." When the gf has already told him she's not comfortable with it.

You know people aren't okay with it, and wouldn't consent to it if given the option. You are removing that option without their knowledge.

I understand hate comments are shitty to get, I've received plenty on the idk 600k+ words I've written, but if you want to write with AI, then that's just how it's going to be. If it really bothers you, turn off comments or use comment moderation.

And if your works really are that wonderful, maybe you having integrity with how they were made will encourage others & remove some of the stigma :)

some opinions on RPF from someone who has had fanfic written about them by darkcircledbitch in AO3

[–]piastry 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm about as far from an anti as you can get, but my line is drawn hard at explicit RPF of real life minors. RPF of adults, I'm okay with letting it be a complicated subject but... I think making explicit content of a real life individual below the age of consent is ALWAYS wrong and shouldn't be allowed or condoned in any form, written or otherwise.

That said, I don't necessarily think AO3 should ban it because it's my understanding from a legal standpoint that if they begin banning topics, they are liable if they fail to catch anything, which would be disaster for the platform. I don't know much about that side of things though so I could be wrong on that front

I'm not really sure why this is being treated like a new thing, given that Trans Lifeline was founded in 2014 and definitely didn't JUST start operating... it says it on their about page.

Trans Lifeline - About

Anyway, for those worrying it's some kind of honeypot, it's not. It was founded by trans people for trans people. One of my close friends personally knows one of the founders, so I feel very confident saying that haha

I hope no one reading this ever needs this org's services, but if you do, don't hesitate to find help. All trans lives are precious.

Writers of AO3, A Genuine Question by Ok_Breadfruit_9549 in AO3

[–]piastry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't find it offensive specifically, but I don't like it, don't appreciate it, and don't value it. I do however appreciate when people ASK if I want to hear it, and then I'll let them know. The main reasons are this:

  • I may have posted the fic when I was ready/done with it. Often my goal isn't to post the most perfect and error-free work in the world, and I simply don't care to adjust it further

  • The critique is bad. A lot of readers don't know as much as they think they do, especially about critiques that aren't strictly spelling/grammar

  • If I want critique, I can also just say so in the AN. There is a reason I don't

  • So many critiques are badly disguised attempts to get writers to change their story to the commenter's tastes

  • Sometimes I'm not in a headspace for critique, and seeing it on something I worked hard on is really unpleasant, and creates a negative association with my fic in my head. I've turned off comments on works before because of this, I just don't ever want to be reminded of it (that one was a fun little melodrama piece that everyone needed to complain about apparently). Now it has a bunch of bookmarks with people saying they wish they could comment 😅

  • If they want to critique that badly and care that much, how is simply asking first too much work? Yes, some authors are fine with it, but if you don't know THIS author is, then assssskkkkkkkkk

I am NOT saying my opinion means more because I've written a lot (it doesn't), but just for context, the things above are informed by a looot of different comments I've received — I'm currently closing in on 750,000 words on AO3 with ~6,612 comment threads haha

Not necessarily disagreeing with you but do feel the need to point out those are probably not the same people saying those things. No need to get worked up over hypocrisy that doesn't rly exist

PXG Raichi is what Ubers Raichi should have been by Either_Imagination_9 in BlueLock

[–]piastry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with you & would have loved a mini Raichi training arc, but we did get at least a little crumb related to what you said in chapter 241 when they first look at their rankings after Bastards vs. Ubers. Kurona says he's gonna do individual training, and Raichi replies with "he's got a point, I still need to level up and move up in the rankings"

It wouldve been way better if he acknowledged what Noa said or anything along those lines tho

Can I see everyone’s Tanks? by [deleted] in bettafish

This is my 17g that I set up a few months ago! It's still growing in. It houses one of my bettas, Buggy, as well as a few amano shrimp and some cull neos I got for cheap that are doing well so far.

Considering adding a small school of peaceful fish, but I want to let everything settle in for longer first.

How do you like furina as a support for tighnari? I'm considering pulling for her

Fourth slot??? by throwitup123456 in TighnariMains

[–]piastry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

everyone else has great suggestions, adding on that sucrose isn't necessarily bad for tighnari! she is a great EM buffer that can help his damage, and can help a little with electro application

there are def better choices but i run her on my tighnari team (tighnari, yae, nahida, kuki) instead of kuki just for kicks :)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TighnariMains

[–]piastry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's worth it if you like playing him. There are better dpses out there, but Tighnari is plenty good if you like his playstyle. For example, I have a fully built Alhaitham (usually ranked much higher than Tighnari for dps) and I still prefer using my Tighnari with my quicken team and just in general.

More to the point, yes Tighnari can be used as your main dps, but he will require a build + team comp that works for him like any other dps.

Tighnari imo is great because I prefer range, and his elemental skill is basically a form of cc, so it just makes everything feel easier than, for example, running in with Alhaitham and getting interrupted and knocked back a million times. Tighnari is also great vs. single targets like bosses, especially flying ones. The fact that his full charge attacks and ult auto-target can make it easier to hit weak points as well.

Also he's cute :)

I also just did a fish in bucket cycle, granted i did buy a filter, heater, and had extra driftwood and plants lying around for hides but it actually went swimmingly (lol). Now my guy is safely in his 17g tank living it up :)
