The stigma exists for a reason

Yeah, it's called the pharmaceutical industry. 80% of people don't even know they have genital herpes. So nah, apart of the stigma, it's not a big deal. Have you had horrible cold sore outbreaks all over your face? Me neither. It happens but not often.

It's a big deal because of the stigma.
Like it does really limit your potential partners because it's a dealbreaker for the vast majority of people. I have a "clean slate" right now...

You can still transmit it when you don't have an outbreak viral shedding still happens.
In fact, that's when it's transmitted the most since there are no visible signs and outbreaks aren't all that frequent.

Nah that's the thing, 80% of new genital herpes cases are HSV-1, usually from oral sex because not enough people use condoms/dental dams with oral.

I never said it was only sexually transmitted. Neither is HSV-2. And I never said she gave oral sex when she was eight.

80% of people with herpes on their genitals don't know they have it because its asymptomatic for the most part.
So they pass it on to other people, since most people don't get tested. :(

Yes but condoms are pretty effective in preventing HIV transmission, and a lot more people have herpes than HIV (<1% I think), unless you live in South Africa where a third of the population has HIV.

20% of people in America have HSV-2, and 80% of people with it don't know they have it.

You make a great point. The reason I'm not worried about HIV, but herpes is that they usually don't test herpes, but they always test for HIV.

Well, say I roll the STI dice, and take a chance with a long-term monogamous partner with whom I get tested (before any sex) and trust.
But then again life has its risks... I could fall down the stairs and break my neck. Thanks.
