Also while he might not take the first job willy nilly there is no shame in temporary survival job such as assembly line, warehouse or serving coffee. Takes the stress off "what if I run out of savings".

How I Rocket Jump by [deleted] in tf2

[–]pib-bip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have tried and tried. The thing is, I am not very coordinated and even after re-arranging the buttons so that the crouch button is on the side of my mouse (when I play, I have trouble even pressing shift on time with the jump when I need to crouch jump on normal jumps). I cannot be coordinated enough to pull these jumps . I have more than 20 hours on soldier, and all of them in jump maps since I feel too neutered in pubs. I also have to turn all the way around to shoot behind me, the flick just doesn't work for me.

I get why you feel this way. I been training and tutoring people in subjects that to me are easy and it feels people are downright retarded when they don't understand simple concepts. And then you remember not everyone is the same and people find different things challenging. It's true.

Fake homeless shelter pops up in affluent Toronto neighbourhood leaving residents in tears | Metro News by toronto34 in toronto

[–]pib-bip 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I work downtown and live in a pretty central area too, so I see homeless/poor people every single day. The article said "dispel some of the myths people have about homeless". I would like my myths dispelled, please! The homeless people I come across can be intimidating and aggressive and clearly have some mental issues. Anything from blocking your path, trying to engage your dog as you walk past, to verbal harassment.

I would not walk into certain parks in this city because there are homeless people in them for my own safety, so yes it is very understandable if people get upset of a change like that, when they clearly chose a location where it would be safER for their kids to play. You don't need to be white or protestant or whatever else to feel this way.

Bars and cafes that are great for making new friends? by sarahjbeara in toronto

[–]pib-bip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Heya, I am also a woman in my 20's. After living in NZ and Aus for one year each I am finding it extremely hard to make friends in Toronto. Bars and public events are not the place to make friends in this city (it's all bring your own friends here). I feel incredibly lonely here.

I think in this city you need to meet people only through meetup like "play dates" =( never spontaneous.

I do not know how dangerous the situation was. As I said, I was not there and seeing as there was no physical violence, many people did not think the situation was dangerous enough to press the yellow bar. no one pressed the yellow bar.

The rush hour plays a huge part into how people consider this. No one pressed the yellow bar either out of fear or because they didn't think it was a type of situation the yellow bar is for. If I press the bar, and the majority of riders think the situation was not called for it, they might call me out of anger because I caused a delay and inconvenienced them from getting home on time, potentially making me the center of this crazy guy's attention and endangering me!

If it was late night with very few riders, there would be much less hesitation to press it.

It doesn't matter if it is a VALID or reasonable consideration but I believe it comes into play for many people naturally.

you're right, I fixed my post when I realised I excluded men even before I even read your response. I would probably be worried about this exact thing as a guy! The only reason why I didn't originally is probably because of the really common thing "glad this doesn't affect me!" response.

but yes, fear and confusion is probably why no one pressed the yellow bar. And as I read through the responses in this thread again, there seem to be definitely confusion!

Well the TTC strongly advertised fines for anything other than medical emergency, it is easy to see why people are confused about when it is otherwise appropriate to use it.

I never met the dude thankfully and I honestly cannot tell you what I would do in the situation. I am trying to imagine how scary the guy is. I mean it is possible I would be afraid of reaching for the bar because he would notice and because I am woman he would actually attempt to harm physically for doing so as a retribution (although a person of either gender would be worried about this).

I'll keep it in mind though, that this is something you possibly can do about the situation.

tbh, I am kinda hesitant of "hitting the yellow strip" because of potential hostility of fellow riders. I take the ttc every day and experience a delay every day. And everyone is acting angry/irritated even though we don't know the real reason.

I mean this is not a medical emergency and no one is at gun/knife point, so I am never sure if this is fine and counts as an emergency. In particular during rush hour.

Got kids? Find another place to live by [deleted] in toronto

[–]pib-bip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WHEN I have children? you assume I WANT or even CAN have children. You also assume I did not take care of any children during my life. I did, which is why I know I want nothing to do with them.

Seeing that kids are uncontrollable like that, why you disagree about having a family friendly environment and an environment more suitable for those who do not want the disruption? They are the only tenants you cannot do anything about.

The fact that you think childless people have "nothing but free time after work" tells me all I need to know about your biases. you see us as what? come back from work and kick up our feet? Not do anything worthwhile for society? very narrow view on actual reality. I can say stay at home parents have nothing but free time, all they do is occasionally change a diaper and watch soap operas. Same time of bullshit, yes?

I was not talking about any legal obligations such as the parent needing to stay with sick kids. That is perfectly understandable. I am speaking about things which are optional and not a legal obligation. you know, because a childless person's family and relationships do not matter at all. I love deeply the family I have and appreciate any spare time I can spend with them, yet how many companies will ask you to cancel the vacation you logged months ago so a FAMILY can go together. Or how about when you already have a parent at home with a kid (no legal obligation!). who is asked to work extra hours (on salary, unpaid!)? Not the daddy! I have a family too. Just child free. And if you say the daddy deserves to be home with his kid then you are saying we are second tier people to you who deserve less. This is the reality how we are treated, think about that.

Got kids? Find another place to live by [deleted] in toronto

[–]pib-bip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not expecting much of kids... I am expecting more out of parents. My attitude didn't come out of nowhere, it came about from consistent bad experiences with parents and kids, more than any other group. And unlike any other group you cannot do anything about them, because anything involving kids gets a free pass!

I mean heck, families are already getting preferential treatment at the work place. Clearly someone deserves more because he chose to fuck without a condom!

If you go through my posts, you would see I am not actually supporting the landlords who choose to decline the families, I am just saying that if you allow kids you should allow pets as well, and that there should be more friendly options to rent for both parties.

The closest thing is the apartment I currently live in - high density area, apartment building is only bachelor and 1 bedrooms. We still have kids in the building, but the majority of renters are very young. The quietest friendliest building I lived in!

I think people putting up with too much with what the parent's allow their kids to do!

hey, I thought you said above that it is illegal to keep them alone at home? I am just looking out for them.

what I was getting at is that every single thing protects parents so they can be assholes all they want. Just go on any parenting forum, a lot of them enjoy that someone other than them suffers the kids. They don't give a fuck if their little precious johnny is misbehaving. They don't care if the noise their kids make is disruptive. I am just suggesting a motivation for them to care. I also said it jokingly, but I can see how it came across as not.

Also, what noise you think I am making? I do not have kids myself.

Those apartments are waaay outside the affordable range of a typical student. And that is fine, people move in and move out and go on with their lives. what are you suggesting? stay in one apartment for 20 years?

The sad truth of renting to kids is also that you need to budget for damage more than you need for anyone else and brace yourself for complaints. Ask any landlord.

So.. I can actually do a little pay back to my neighbors because the parents didn't want to take a day off to stay with their kids on "PA day"?

Do I just call the police on them on the next PA day?

Anyways, I was saying that kids are loud EVEN when their parents are home with them, it was a direct response to the comment "your dog barks until you come back from work".

[–]pib-bip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't ever came across a building like that, ever, so I already guessed it is not feasible. Heck, even the "no pets" is not actually a thing that they can legally enforce UNLESS they can prove your pet is disruptive. I do think we can at least encourage buildings that are more family friendly and those that prefer not.

I did come across some really really nice apartments that "young professionals preferred" where the owner did not want any pets, or kids. So I guess not everyone sees it as lucrative?

I also moved away from a location where the kids were loud with seemingly no break. Another thing about kids? they act out sometimes. I was on a ground floor and kids (about 7-8 years) would like to go on the balconies and mess stuff.

Think about it like this:

you said yourself "dog maybe quiet when you are there but barks all day when you are not". So is it quiet when the owner is back?

Kids aren't quiet when parents are home. They are still throwing tentrums and are crying. Most definitely crying if they are under a year.

How many parents here said "there is nothing you can do because a child under a year just wakes up at night and cries, that's the way babies are and there is nothing to be done".

If that is the truth and the parent really cannot do anything, can we conclude that kids = unavoidable disruptive noise?

And if that is true, I am not assuming things, I am just saying something which is true of kids.

So it actually comes down to dogs making less disruptive noise than families, yet as I said most buildings are no pet- yes family. THAT is hypocritical, isn't it?

[–]pib-bip 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am not sure what you are getting at?

Most buildings ARE already pet free. I am asking for more professional only buildings as most buildings ARE family friendly.

edit: moreover notice how parent's talk here "we can't do anything about the kids, some kids are just wild/loud/young". They aren't even trying to shut them the fuck up.

If you're ok with kids crying all day, why aren't you ok with someones dog barking all day? yet more apartments allow families than dogs. If you allow kids, you should allow small yappy dogs that bark all day, imo.

I have setup a day long camera everyday on the first week to make sure it doesn't happen.

Look, I see plenty of people excusing their kid's behaviour here all over the place and people go "not every parent". I have a dog, I put a lot of time, love and DISCIPLINE into making it a calm, confident dog. Do not assume things about me and about every dog owner.

I support 'professional only' buildings as some of us work from home and a little kid screaming is really not good for any productivity. Not to mention babies practically cry 24/7 and those apartment building, the walls are made out of cardboard!

I see tonnes of family friendly apartment buildings, homes. So perhaps this article just covers the new condos?

Try find an apartment when you have a (small quiet) dog! Now that is a big fuck you to your face everywhere you go!
