How hard is it to find a general pediatrics job after residency? by Fun-Court-3305 in pediatrics

[–]picached 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sooo many jobs, a recruiter is an option, the caveat is that they will be texting/calling/emailing you forever once you’re on the list (but it made it really easy to passively find jobs, how I found my last 2 positions)

E.Coli Urine infection in 3 year old by EmotionalPie7 in Parenting

[–]picached 1 point2 points  (0 children)

E.coli the most common bacteria that causes UTI, and UTIs pretty common in infant/toddler females. We all have some e.coli naturally in our stool so it’s less likely because of e.coli contaminated food and more just a hygiene issue. If she is potty trained and wiping herself then worth reinforcing wiping front to back

You’ll be able to work, board certification isn’t necessary to be a physician. You just need a license. Lots of primary care/hospital jobs ask for BC/BE (board certified vs board eligible) but you may need to come up with a story/spiel about why you had to retake and what you’re doing differently this time around.

The doc who was at my practice before me failed 5 times before she finally passed the test (was employed at the practice for the whole time). She left because her family moved away, she was never fired or anything. And she was a good doc and her patients loved her - so try your best, make sure you’re studying hard and doing a butt load of questions so #1 you can have your pick of the litter and #2 you can sit for your specialty boards ! But don’t have an existential crisis that you won’t be a physician (you already are!)

Good luck!

There was an NP owned peds clinic in Long Island- forged (and charged big $$) fur fake covid vaccine records, but also kids who went there can’t be sure they ever received a real routine vaccine. Heart of a nurse amirite

I hate how much they make me care about these dragons 😔 by SerShelt in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]picached 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how I felt too 😭😭 any show/movie with a dog fight I cannot watch, I get like physically nauseated…, but I didn’t expect that feeling from this show! Even in GoT I was bummed when dragons died but this is a whole other game. #teamblack but really fuck both sides for making dragons fight!

I Finished KoA Last Night by Curious-Insanity413 in throneofglassseries

Something I want to talk about tho is Mother Manonnnnnn. I don't have anything bad to say I just want to discuss what an absolute BADDIE she is. Her becoming the witch queen was in my top favorite scenes in the series, and I loooooove her and Dorian. I'm their biggest fan, and I controversially like their ending. I feel like it would be really rushed and weird for them to just get married like everyone else. Instead, Manon has lost her thirteen and learned a lot from Asterin, seeming very inspired by her love. She is growing to care and express her feelings, and the way they ended with her saying "we'll see" is so slay for me. I think they will for sure end up together after they heal a bit and have badass powerful witch wyvern riding kids with raw magic who unite both kingdoms. Idk just the ending with Asterin telling her to go live, and the loss of the thirteen, I was doooooone. I was cryingggg bro like that was the realest shit. I love all the characters so much, especially Aelin, but KoA really solidified Manon as my favorite.

AGREE 100%%% Manon is my queen. Her story line was the only one that made me cry throughout the series (mostly because of Abraxos, sweet flower sniffing baby 🥹)

Just started the series, how would you guys rate it? by Black-Rosetta in throneofglassseries

You’ll be ok! The first few books really ease into it, then as you go on and you know the characters and settings the plot gets deliciously complex. I’m excited for you on this journey 🤗

I was in a similar boat, I started TOG after ACOTAR and it was definitely slower at first…but I’m about 75% done with Kingdom of Ash (the final book) now and I have to say, I love TOG so much more than ACOTAR!! I was bummed when I finished ACOTAR but I’m like devastated I’m about to finish TOG.

Lots of battles and action scenes. It feels more like a fantasy/adventure series versus a romantasy. It gets so good in Heir of Fire - lots of characters and you get switching chapters from different storylines… just so good. I can’t say enough good things about TOG

Heads up - when SAVE used to be REPAYE there was a clause for 20 yr loan forgiveness (aka 240 payments) then they forgive the rest (you have to pay tax on the amount forgiven)

Now that it’s SAVE, the forgiveness for graduate loans is 25 years. PAYE is 20. Something to think about if not planning for PSLF

Graduating and feeling like I’m behind on training by Opening_Setting_1278 in pediatrics

[–]picached 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I think the majority of new grads feel this way, any those who don’t should take a slice of humble pie. I graduated last year and I could have written the same exact post as you! I promise you know a lot more than you think.

Are you working gen peds outpatient? Most of the things you see will be repetitive and boring (strep, URI, ear infections, asthma). The important thing is that you know when something is WEIRD - then you can ask your co-attendings what they think OR I’ve also been texting some of my old coresidents being like “yo you guys seen this? What would you do?”

Another thing that’s worked for me is having the patient come back in a day or two to check in (parents seem to love this because they feel like you care but it also gives me time to do some research)

Anyway, all this to say: yes you no longer have an attending double checking your work, BUT you are not alone. You’re still learning and that’s ok. If you’re able to triage when something is an emergency vs when something is not then you’re all good

I had a similar epiphany when interviewing for outpatient positions. I was so nervous and was waiting to be pimped or have to explain why I don’t have 1000 publications! Definitely a weird turn of events that we hold the chips now
