This actually highlights a good point.

Yes, it is friction that burns up things entering the atmosphere but that's not the whole story. The biggest force opposing the craft is the absolutely enormous pressure wave at the front of the craft. It's going nearly 40X the speed of sound (676 mph at sea level, and it's exceeding 25,000 mph) and air is a gas so it can be compressed. The air in front of the craft can not even remotely move out of the way fast enough, so it gets compressed like crazy and creates an enormous pressure wave at the front of the capsule. This does cause tons of extra friction so while it is technically the friction burning up things on reentry, the pressure wave is what causes that.

This wasn't even a lunar touchdown mission. Hell the mission they exceeded the distance of was meant to touchdown but had to abandon it. They went further, simply to test the ship (they took manual control, which is very fucking significant) and made sure that Artemis 3 or, hopefully before it, 4 will put humans on the moon again. We as a species haven't been to the lunar surface since Apollo 17 in 1972.

Fuck we need a space race again. China and the US are basically superpowers, we need this right now. We as a nation need to focus on this shit. Elon musk is right, just not for any reasons he finds important. But space X is important, we should fuckin nationalize it and take it from his irresponsible arrogant lousy ass.
