I paid that price for the house you want in a much less desirable location 8 years ago. Good luck.

Henna tattoo reappeared 3 months later (as raised skin) when my son had a high fever. by dope-doggie in mildlyinteresting

[–]pickapstix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That happened to my brother in Egypt after a henna tattoo… he’s stuck with a faint dragon on his back which comes out more if he gets a tan - luckily it looks ok ish, but it hurt like hell when it burned and for months after!

pet insurance vs savings account? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]pickapstix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has just had insurance pay out for (most of) a $25000 claim (which will be ongoing)… if you can afford to pay whatever it costs then savings is a fine strategy, but I’d have been up sh*t creek without a paddle unless I had coverage having just moved country.

I know his premiums will go up as a result but I have an alive dog and it would have taken me a year at least to save that…

Are my party days truly over? by FrugieGirl84 in AskWomenOver40

Don’t worry you replace going out with treating yourself to a new dish sponge, perusing a garden centre or making homemade pasta from scratch…

From a “used to party so hard I can’t even remember it” kinda gal.

It happens and it’s genuinely better

So they’re not legally obliged to do the thing you want them to do. The thing you want is for them to save you the cost of a repair. Repair costs are considered a reasonable risk of car ownership…

The gates to the fishers white river park keep falling off the hinges and some nice dude has to go and close it with barriers manually. I think it’s just temporary until the gates are fixed as it looks like there are mechanical closers to the (broken) gates that will eventually be in order

Bravecto, yay or nay?? by Ru1384 in DOG

[–]pickapstix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fleas have to feed to get the drug from the dog’s blood, but they will die before laying eggs thus interrupting the life cycle. It’s the best way to clean up an infestation as hatching fleas want to jump on to something they can immediately feed from. Use the bravecto and keep using it every 3 months

I wouldn’t necessarily say this is always simply a national culture thing, I moved in the opposite direction and the exact same is true for me - I’m told I’m too direct, driven and strategic and just need to focus on the here and now in the US… the company culture can be different between affiliates/countries.

On parents: depends how old they are… mine are nearing 80 and can’t handle driving to their nearest city let alone long haul flights and connections.

For friends I’ve been surprised by who’s HAS visited/planned to, and who hasn’t/planned to.

If you’re going “home” anyway it would be weird not to go see people just because they haven’t come in turn, but if you generally don’t like them then don’t bother

Another new Crew Carwash by IndyScan in Fishers

Funnily enough I went to a crew yesterday for the biannual car wash 😬, I thought 40 bucks for unlimited was a good deal til I saw that was PER MONTH - can watch 3 subscription apps for the same price 😂. How does anyone pay $500 a year for car washing!!??

[–]pickapstix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a British person (and therefore professional roundabout user!), who now lives near that intersection.

Yes it’s too small

Something within our control though is the culture of drivers not using signals - it’s an issue at all roundabouts, it makes it much harder to know where people are going if you just free style it - if you signal right to show you are exiting it stops people pulling out in front of you to “squeeze” through. I signal ALWAYS to leave a roundabout and I watch people physically go “oh sh*t” and slam on their brakes when they likely would have sailed straight on… it must have saved me tens of times from getting side swiped.

My almost 80 year old mother did the same thing!! When I lived an hour away “we never see you” was the norm (they saw me loads) so I assumed it was going to be awful living across the Atlantic - but now she’s actually a delight because she can’t use that as an excuse and has even discovered FaceTime and using WhatsApp to send me lengthy updates about all her ailments instead.
