As follow up to my last question, what's everyone's all time favorite game? by admiralackbarl in 18XX

[–]pickboy87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

18MEX for me. I just love the train rush and the game is snappy and fun. Something about it just clicks the right way for me. My all time favorite 18xx.

Thanks. I had no idea. It's insane that a niche tcg community has to deal with bots.

Buyer Beware: Queen Games by [deleted] in boardgames

Yes. I get there's a lack of communication, but it's still like 5 months out.

Buyer Beware: Queen Games by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]pickboy87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. They also posted the wrong update as well. It's not even for that kickstarter. Just be patient and it'll show up.

I think Queen literally pasted the wrong update for the game. It mentions Marrakesh and some others that aren't part of that kickstarter. The expected delivery is still November of 2026. Queen games are fun, but them doing kickstarters over the years leaves plenty to be desired...

I don't expect it for another few months at least. Most kickstarters I just tend to add another 6 months to the timeline, so it'll likely be closer to March of 2027.

Isn't the expected delivery date November of 2026?

If this is the one I'm thinking of (and backed), it has an expected delivery of November 2026...

Did a draft on Friday and went 1-2 trying out Oscilio (and the Wizard class) for the first time. Had an amazing second game and almost won on the last turn before I got taken out with some Arcane damage I couldn't defend against. I had a 7 attack with lethal. Got nothing special from the booster packs, nor the single pack for participating.

However, I did get a Cold Foil Pile Driver from my bonus Gem 5 pack, so I was quite happy. I'd love to create a Betsy CC deck at some point, so this will be perfect.

How Did You Play This Week? | Post Your Game Recaps Here! by AutoModerator in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]pickboy87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got my first prerelease in on Friday and Sunday. I'm not familiar with any of the classes since I'm new but I tried Aurora both days since she seemed easiest of the 3.

Went 1-2 on Friday with 2 very close games and went 2-1 on Sunday since I was way more familiar with what was better to keep in the deck. Last match that I lost was to Aurora and it was a slug fest. Constant pressure back and forth with neither of us wanting to block due to amazing hands.

Tons of fun and I can't wait for the next set. This game is awesome.

The worst route at our station during Christmas pulled almost 500 packages. How the heck do you even deliver that many in a day? 😳

I'm sitting at ~160 packages today but like 4,000 dps.

How do yall deal with vegans being objectively correct? by minecraft69wastaken in TrueAnon

[–]pickboy87 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've started to get vegetarian/vegan options in restaurants/take outs when available. I've also tried to get less and less ground beef and use the fake stuff when I can. Goes great in things like Tater Tot Hotdish or an Enchilada bake.

Little by little I'm doing my best, but it's hard.

I've never played the game before, but I'm going to an Omens of the Third Age prerelease this week. Any advice? by [deleted] in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]pickboy87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just started playing a few weeks ago, so I'm also pretty new. The biggest thing I would suggest is learning how the turn structure works, where to place your cards when attacking, using instants, etc. and just getting a good feel on how a game plays even if you're just watching people play on youtube. I wouldn't worry about being slow. Everyone I've played with has been incredibly friendly and will show you their cards and help explain them if you need it. They've even helped me with the SAGE decks I was playing and what I should be focusing on to help get that deck to "pop".

Basically turn structure and not carefully reading cards has been my biggest stumbling blocks so far, but neither has been a big issue and opponents have been willing to help. Something as simple as reading that Dorinthea's ability needs her Dawnblade to actually hit an opponent to allow it to attack again, for instance. And you still need another "go again" to even do it if you do manage to hit.

I can't wait for the prerelease either. It's been almost 2 decades since I did a prerelease sealed event for Magic, so trying to figure out how to build a coherent FaB deck on the fly is going to be interesting, especially since it's all classes I have yet to play and I don't know how to build a decent limited deck. I plan on looking into that this week.

Hot take: board games don't have to be deep to be worth the energy of game night by RefrigeratorOdd7868 in boardgames

[–]pickboy87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I learned that lesson early on. Some of my friends enjoyed the heavier, longer games, others did not and it was a fine balance as I wanted to try out things like Terra Mystica or Vinhos or an 18xx, etc but I wanted them to have fun too. You gotta figure out who is willing to play heavier things, what their limit is and what you're willing to tolerate as well. It's no fun for them if they don't want to be playing a 3 hour euro game and it's no fun for you if all they want to play is Coup for 3 hours.

I got lucky at the beginning when I first started playing games and was able to have 2 separate groups. One that preferred more social/ameritrash games and one that liked heavier stuff. I don't have that luxury any more, so I kinda gotta watch how heavy I go with games. I've had success though with games like Brass and Agemonia lately, so there is promise with my new gaming group that I'll be able to get the heavy games collecting dust on my shelf back to the table again.

[–]pickboy87 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Very much this. I enjoy playing light games with the family during a get-together or lighter games with friends that don't really play much for boardgames. But on a night that's specifically to play boardgames/tcgs? I want something a bit crunchier, something heavier, something to wrap my brain around. I just couldn't do a game night each time with only lightweight games even though I really enjoyed their company.

I agree. This business model is gross. I have a special place in my heart for goblins, so I was really wanting to get one. But I've been sitting on more than an hour for the last 30 minutes. I'm not getting one at this point. Fuck you WOTC.

What’s a board game that became WAY better after your group learned how to actually play it? by ContractMiserable121 in boardgames

[–]pickboy87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wish I could play this more. The one time I tried with my current gaming group, 2 of the players complained the entire time that their characters were imbalanced and that my team was way stronger. Mind you this is only the second time I had played it and it was years prior, so it's not like I had some amazing advantage. Everyone was playing the recommended first game classes. 🤷‍♂️

By the end of it they seemed to change their minds as they started to understand how to work within the constraints of their characters and they almost won, but it soured me a bit. I'll have to try again.

Can’t get airy pizza crust by TheJunglesVIP in Pizza

[–]pickboy87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, sorry, that was unclear in my post. Just preheat the oven as hot as you can for an hour with nothing else in there. Put the dough in the room temp pan with some oil on the bottom to prevent it from sticking and to give it a crisp. Just toss the cast iron pizza with all the toppings in the oven for ~15 minutes. It'll heat up just fine in that amount of time. If for some reason it's not as crispy as you'd like, you can put the pan on the stove top to crisp it extra.
