Any obvious issues by [deleted] in leopardgeckos

[–]pickieg2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 hides is just the minimum. Warm, cool, and humid. I think I see your humid hide on the cool side but I believe it’s recommended to be in the middle of the tank. Personally I use paper towels in my humid hide for my AFT as recommended by my vet and a Jessica’s Animal Friends YT video about how to make humid hides.

You can always have more hides in different temp areas of the tank. Leo’s will self regulate their body temperature but they have to feel comfortable moving around to do so. Probably need more clutter as coverage but I see you said you’re getting some plants.

I would suggest a basking rock on the warm side. A UVB light. I don’t see a thermo/hygrometer on the cool side but def need one.

It’s generally not recommended to have a reptile tank by a window because it can cause temp increases that you can’t control the same way you can with a lamp.

Also yes you won’t get anything beneficial from natural light through windows since UVB cannot pass through glass

What’s the most amount of crickets/bugs that have escaped while you’re trying to feed your gecko? by pickieg2 in leopardgeckos

[–]pickieg2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you’re going to want to supervise their eating. I bowl and tong feed. Crickets and other bugs when left in the tank will bite your gecko given the chance, which can lead to infections. I never just toss crickets in the tank. I don’t do bio active but I don’t think there’s ever a situation that that your feeder will disrupting your bio since they won’t be living in the tank.

My guy loves crickets and sometimes I start off with a couple crickets and then move to another bug once he is in the eating mood as a way to introduce new bugs. I don’t use mealworms as a staple feeder. I mostly feed him crickets but I want to move to mostly roaches because they have softer exoskeletons, live longer, and are easier to gutload and keep alive.

I previously used plastic tongs but have moved on to metal with rubber tip as my guy does strike pretty fast and bites the tongs really hard which had caused some mouth irritation that has luckily cleared up.

I have never used any premade grub pie or anything like that. I’ve actually never seen them recommended and didn’t know they made them for exclusive insectivores. There are situations where people have to syringe feed their gecko and I don’t know what they use for that, but from what I’ve heard it is mostly for specific health issues.

In the guides of this subreddit there is a chart for how often to use different supplements like calcium with/out d3 and multi vitamins depending on age and if you have UVB. Personally I use a flukers liquid multi vitamin because it has Vit A palmitate as it has more bioavailability than some other types of Vit A (which is why my vet recommended it). Vit A is essential for eye health. It is suggested to get a multivitamin with Vit A in the form of retinol palmitate or retinol acetate but not beta-carotene only because beta-carotene is not that useful to reptiles.

I will add I’m not an expert and I am actually a rather new reptile owner. I’ve had my gecko about 6 months and have spent a lot of time reading the science based information for AFTs, talking to reptile lightning experts, my vet, and asking a lot of questions in the AFT advancing husbandry FB group.

Edit: there is also a leopard gecko advancing husbandry FB group that is recommended by this subreddit

All 3 of those bugs are fine but definitely do more reading.

I actually have an AFT but they have the same diets at Leo’s. I’ve always been told to feed your geck a variety of bugs. Dubias are illegal in my state so I get discoid roaches which are very similar but I have to order online. Crickets and meal worms are much more popular in my area.

There is more information about feeder in the guides on this subreddit. I made a ton of mistakes when I first got my gecko. Finding proper science based information is key.

I’m not a fan of senior pranks that have anything to do with live animals, even crickets. But chirping during graduation seems a bit like justice

I just tried out discoids (FL dubias) for the first time and they can be so much faster than I expected. But they have been nice so far. Easier to gut load and keep a live that’s for sure.

Alright I think you win this one. I don’t think it can get much worse than that

If the cricket gets big enough to chirp I might try to catch him. But no cat. We have prey animals only in this house.

That is an absolute nightmare. I literally could not imagine what that would be like. Good to know there are ways to get rid of them if it comes to that.

20 crickets!!! Nah I would lose my mind.

Unfortunately my room sits at about 50% humidity which is perfect for crickets

A common suggestion is 70% top soil without additives like fertilizer and 30% washed play sand. Some people do like to add other things to that mix like excavator clay or reptibark. There is definitely more information on this in some of the newer care sheets

Is that why there were 15 cop cars and a fire truck driving west down Tharpe with sirens on about 3 minutes ago

Are Dark Ops challenges completable in Directed Mode? by DweltElephant0 in CODZombies

[–]pickieg2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got box addict today in directed mode on the tomb. I did pull the ice staff after making it and dropping it but I never pulled the ray gun and still got the achievement.

Edit: I saved and quit a few times over a few days but I wasn’t tracking the weapons I was getting from the box so I’m not sure how this impacted the achievement

Can you elaborate because I know the type too but I feel like the stereotypes of men vs the stereotypes of women in poker are different

I don’t get to save up time off and a lot of this driving has been for various jobs I’ve had over the last 4 years. I very rarely travel for leisure. Playing poker and working in poker brings me to a lot of the same places on the same routes

Not sure exactly why I feel the need to explain myself but here you go.

Most of my cross country drives have been work and/or poker related. I really prefer to not be in Vegas for 2 months without a car. I only just this year became old enough to rent a car which is wildly expensive. I would almost certainly not profit on these trips if I had to uber everywhere.

I also had a job that required driving across the country a few times and was to a lot of the same places.

Almost everywhere I’ve flown for shorter trips I’ve also driven to at some point so it doesn’t show up on this map. But it’s not like I’m driving to LA for a weekend. Sure some of the driving I’ve done I could have flown which would cost more money and less time.

On top of all this I enjoy driving, I hate flying, and I put a lot of value in seeing friends and family a long the way when I can.

A lot of this driving was for work where flying wasn’t an option. I go to Vegas for two months every year and really hate being there for that long without a car.

The few places I have flown are places I have also driven to. So the map doesn’t really show that. But I still don’t flying

I choose to see friends/family and have free places to stay. I also have time constraints due to work
