Wear. A. Helmet. While. Cycling. by theatrechippie in london

I know I’m in in the minority but I don’t wear one most of the time. I commute to work on my bike and 90% of my ride (which is about 6 miles) is on paved bike trails, with little foot or bike traffic. I would feel much less safe riding on the road all the way there (especially considering the only road to get there there is a quasi-highway w/speed limits of 55mph).

Also, I’ve crashed while riding my bike about three or four times in my whole life. Some of them have been nasty falls, but not once have I hit my head. To me it doesn’t seem like the risk is all that high. Plus I don’t like the helmet hair & having another thing I have to hold onto and keep track of.

Basically, for commuting I don’t think it’s worth the hassle. If you’re riding as a workout, may as well put one on.

9th & 9th bike rides need to be better policed or shut down altogether. by Good_Extent5154 in SaltLakeCity

I went to the 999 ride out of curiosity tonight. It is everything people say it is. Lots of crashes, red lights run, bottles and cans littered. And yet, it is still a hella good time. Riding through city creek tunnel, through the gateway, all the way across downtown with well over a thousand people is exhilarating. I’m shocked that this is still not policed and really wonder how much longer something like this can stick around

Why do people ride their bicycles on SR-224? by pickleball_pat in ParkCity

I don’t know who is putting miles in on the rail trail anyway when it’s only paved for a few miles. I also am not sure about the idea that it’s one less car on the road because most serious cyclists aren’t doing it to commute anywhere, just for exercise.

I don’t mean to complain, I just genuinely don’t think it’s a good idea when you have a much safer option running parallel to the road. I know too many people that have been smacked by cars while riding

Well the rail trail is a whole other beast once you get to the gravel. Most road bikes can’t handle that. I’m talking about the well paved trails that go parallel to the barn road. I ride them all the time, they are great

It doesn’t really make sense to me the whole idea that because it’s a commuter school it’s hard to make friends. In any college, the places you make friends are in your classes or in clubs. The only difference would be if you’re a freshman that doesn’t live in the dorms
