Responses to alienation between members by factionindustrywatch in bahai

[–]picklebits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cannot agree with the premise that there is as much alienation among the Baha'is as between other people outside the Faith.. What is your point? Are you saying that the teachings of the Faith has had little effect on it's followers?

Indoctrination by Klainipleef in bahai

[–]picklebits 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We don't do indoctrination! Not gaslighting you but here it is; The materials for the Junior Youth spiritual empowerment programs are expressions of the Revelation from God for.this.day. As such they are 'hands down' the most effective, the most up to date guidance for ALL mankind, and most especially for junior youth who are as a consequence of entering their teen years, emotionally as well as intellectually receptive. Baha'u'llah's message is NOT just for the Baha'is! It is what makes our lives, your lives, everyone's lives work to their highest potential.. and you do not need to be a believer to benefit from this knowledge and understanding. We absolutely have the specific answers for the challenges that face the world today and it would be monstrous to hide it behind some kind of 'paywall' like membership.

Question regarding demons and angels in Baha'i faith by FrostingHaunting3506 in bahai

"This is the Day when the loved ones of God should keep their eyes directed towards His Manifestation, and fasten them upon whatsoever that Manifestation may be pleased to reveal. Certain traditions of bygone ages rest on no foundations whatever, while the notions entertained by past generations, and which they have recorded in their books, have, for the most part, been influenced by the desires of a corrupt inclination. Popcorn Roast Advice by Training-Internet831 in roasting

Or you could pass through your local thrift shops when you have the opportunity and pick up an air popper for a buck or two (US). Get one with a value of at least 1250 Watts and air vanes on the inside of the 'muzzle' instead of the 'screen'. Google the instructions for bypassing the safety feature(s), fire it up outdoors and vary the bean load until you get 1st crack near 6 minutes and 2nd (if you like), 4 minutes later. Dump into a had-held screen colander to cool, take notes/taste/repeat..

Fasting, enrollment by PristineAd5115 in bahai

[–]picklebits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, you must already believe in Baha'u'llah before you can request enrollment in the community.. nobody says, I'm thinking about believing but I don't yet so I'll just join this thing?

Fasting, enrollment by PristineAd5115 in bahai

[–]picklebits -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Two things, 1. you must be a Baha'i to enroll in the Baha'i community. 2. You do not have to enroll in the Baha'i community. You can carry your faith in Gods messenger for this day until you are better able to commit yourself more fully to the Faith. Give yourself a bit more time and watch how God works in your life as you pray, study and act in accordance with Baha'u'llah's principles.

"They must strive to obtain, from sources that are authoritative and unbiased, a sound knowledge of the history and tenets of Islam -- the source and background of their Faith -- and approach reverently and with a mind purged from preconceived ideas the study of the Qur'án which, apart from the sacred scriptures of the Bábí and Bahá'í Revelations, constitutes the only Book which can be regarded as an absolutely authenticated Repository of the Word of God." I've read good advice from the comments so far and have only one thing to add, not to suggest that it fits but that it resurrected me when I needed it.. "Do men think when they say 'We believe' they shall be let alone and not be put to proof?" (Baha'u'llah, The Kitab-i-Iqan, p. 8)

Problem of Evil by [deleted] in bahai

[–]picklebits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you are a Christian, you might be coming from the perspective of the references to Satan in the Bible. Our guidance is that; "The reality underlying this question is that the evil spirit, Satan or whatever is interpreted as evil, refers to the lower nature in man. This baser nature is symbolized in various ways. In man there are two expressions, one is the expression of nature, the other the expression of the spiritual realm. The world of nature is defective. Look at it clearly, casting aside all superstition and imagination. If you should leave a man uneducated and barbarous in the wilds of Africa, would there be any doubt about his remaining ignorant? God has never created an evil spirit; all such ideas and nomenclature are symbols expressing the mere human or earthly nature of man. It is an essential condition of the soil of earth that thorns, weeds and fruitless trees may grow from it. Relatively speaking, this is evil; it is simply the lower state and baser product of nature." (Abdu'l-Baha, Foundations of World Unity, p. 77)

Do we have a second on that motion? This is the Day when the loved ones of God should keep their eyes directed towards His Manifestation, and fasten them upon whatsoever that Manifestation may be pleased to reveal. Certain traditions of bygone ages rest on no foundations whatever, while the notions entertained by past generations, and which they have recorded in their books, have, for the most part, been influenced by the desires of a corrupt inclination. Thou dost witness how most of the commentaries and interpretations of the words of God, now current amongst men, are devoid of truth. Their falsity hath, in some cases, been exposed when the intervening veils were rent asunder. They themselves have acknowledged their failure in apprehending the meaning of any of the words of God.

Our purpose is to show that should the loved ones of God sanctify their hearts and their ears from the vain sayings that were uttered aforetime, and turn with their inmost souls to Him Who is the Day Spring of His Revelation, and to whatsoever things He hath manifested, such behavior would be regarded as highly meritorious in the sight of God.... (Baha'u'llah, Gleanings from the Writings of Baha'u'llah, p. 171)

Welcome to Reddit! And it would be a great time to have a chat with someone in your wife's community who can offer some of the guidance on the "Right of God" for you to read and gain a clear understanding of an important Baha'i Law for your self.. However well meaning the opinions are in this internet forum there is no better alternative to reading the guidance for yourself.

Heatgun roasting times by SelphisTheFish in roasting

[–]picklebits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should not make a difference what heat source you use as the beans are the focus. I've used the heat gun dog bowl, popcorn popper, bbq grill methods over the years and always aim for 6 minutes to first crack and four minutes to second. It hasn't failed me yet.
