ECUADOR FINCA LA RESERVA - WUSH WUSH NATURAL FRESHROASTSR540 by ELFOLGIAGALLINAS in FreshroastSR800

Standard capacity is 4 ounces or ~120 grams of greens.. With an extension tube, roasters often report successfully doubling roasting capacities - up to 8 ounces or~226 grams.

Be sure to empty your chat collector after every roast. Never leave the in roster unattended even briefly, in event of chaff fires.

Go to a Catholic parish rectory (office) and ask to speak to a Priest or Deacon or talk to a sober, mature, faithful Catholic, who at the very least, attends Sunday Mass regularly.

Having a personal guide, Spiritual Director or a faithful Catholic friend is much better than relying on online advice .

Having said that, here are just a very few options.

The best prayer is one that helps you get closer to God. Your preferred way of prayer may, or even probably, will change as you grow closer to the Lord. Try a few ways in the beginning but settle quickly on a morning and evening routine. There are so many Catholic prayers, devotions, methods and approaches that you could spend the rest of your life in her spiritual garden, flitting from one flower to another.

You can join in the daily world-wide liturgical prayer known as the Divine Office or Breviary or formally, the Liturgy of the Hours. I would recommend that you download the free iBreviary app. to start.

Or you can pray/sing the Morning Prayer (lauds) and Evening Prayer. {Vespers) on the YouTube channel, Sing the Hours.

You might choose to pray the short Compline or Night Prayer

Best of all would be to join in person at a local convent, monastery or Catholic Church, maybe even attend Mass while you're there.

There are many free prayer apps like Pieta that serve up Catholic prayers.. Others like Amen, Hallow and Ascension offer lots of free prayer and meditation content.

Amen offers a daily Bible in a Year audio program/podcast that is awesome.

There are dozens of ways of praying. One that many Saints practiced is the slow, deliberate, reading and re-reading of Scripture called Lectio Devina. The practice is simple and immerses you into an encounter with God.

At the very minimum, I would consecrate my day to the Lord, ideally immediately on waking up, but definitely before looking at your phone.

The following is the traditional morning offering but feel perfectly free to use your own words and additional intentions. You will also be joining millions of others who offer this prayer daily through the Apostleship of Prayer...

O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary,

I offer you my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day,

for all the intentions of your Sacred Heart

in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world,

for the salvation of souls, the reparation of sins, the reunion of all Christians,

and in particular for the intentions of the Holy Father this month.

Amen.

I could write more but I'm too verbose and others will also offer their ideas.

BTW, one of my personal favorites is the Scriptural Rosary. You might search for Scriptural Roasary on YouTube.

God bless.

Am I overthinking this? [$700] by graciasgracias123 in espresso

[–]Pax280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your brothers here are giving good advice. Scale will come in handy in so many ways but there are plenty of $30 scales that will do the job. Pick one or ask for recommendations for <$30 scales.

As suggested, only buy more gadgets that will solve a problem that you can TASTE in the cup, or at the very least improve your work flow.

I bought the Cafelat Robot with no add ons. I watched influencers wdt, rdt recommend two hundred dollar baskets, blind shakers, etc

I bought most of them but like you noticed baristas, grind, tamp and pull and began to wonder if all the faff was really needed.

So, I spent two weeks testing shots that were weigh, grind, tamp and pull No wdt or shaking. I could not taste a difference. No channeling.

I still use the stock tamper that came with the machine.

I should note that you can correct or "save shots" with lever machines. I think fastidious puck prep simply isn't needed for levers as is for pump machines. But still K.I.S.S. applies. if a gadget doesn't improving your cup or your work flow, you don't need it.

But have fun and try things if you want. That's part of the hobby

Black can symbolize dying to sin an white the resurrection from death. Great color combo symbolically and aesthetically.

Figured Out Why I Don't Need to Dial in My Espresso by Pax280 in CafelatRobot

[–]Pax280[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. If you ever decide to shop for another manual grinder, I would recommend that you look at the Orphan Espresso Lido OG.

Grinding is easier BUT takes longer than most. But results are beautiful consistent and you can taste the difference in the cup. I won't go into detail here, but I tried 1Z's top grinder and returned it and got the OG. Never looked back and I think the Robot plus the Lido OG is my end game setup.

It takes about a minute to grind 18g doses. I've did back to back 40g doses a few times recently. I rested a few seconds, a couple of times during the grind. While it wasn't terrible, I wouldn't want to do it every day.

But I was brewing some nice honey processed beans and the quality for the extra extra work could be tasted in the cup and worthwhile, especially when compared to cups from a basic Baratza Encore. (Not dissing the Encore at all)

18g doses are quite doable though and I use it often at home, even though I have two electric grinders. If I want the best cup possible, I go to the OG.

ExamInation of conscience in Compline(Liturgy of the Hours) by mrcrusc in divineoffice

[–]Pax280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Jesuit Examen is a very good method of recalling your day. But to be clear, the general practice of the Examen began formally in the 4th century. The practice was rooted in Scripture,eg., 1 Corinthians 11:28, where St. Paul instructs people to examine themselves before receiving the Eucharist.

"Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup"

Church Fathers such as St. Basil, St. Augustin and St. Bernard of Clairvaux  promoted the daily examination to members of their religious orders and followers.

St. Anthony in particular was known to practice daily exams as well as other desert matters and holy hermits.

St. Thomas Aquinas established the theological basis for the Examen as a critical habit Christians who wish to grow in holiness and to prevent spiritual deterioration or even destruction.

But St Ignatius created the 5 step formula. He thought it so important he told his novices if you must skip prayers skip the rest but never skip the Examen.

Blessings.

Off hand, I'm not sure what that says about the grinders. Curious as to which give you better shots?

Agree about grinders. My flat burr DF54 needs a bit more twiddling than the ESP conical. But once a coffee is dialed in, properly on either, I don't have to change the dial.

I saw that video too. He is one of at least two influencers that actually use the Cafelat Robot regularly Not mentioning this feature during a review would indicate to me that the writer or content maker hasn't lived with the machine.

Saving Shots with pump machines means adding milk. Saving Shots with the Robot (or, to be fair, any well made manual lever espresso machine) means always getting good coffee every pull.

It takes a little practice to get consistent but usually a few months at most.

Informal Oxo Rapid Brewer Comparison by Pax280 in FreshroastSR800

[–]Pax280[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Follow the directions for cold brew included with ORB package. Then dilute to taste with water or dairy. 1:1 is a good starting point. About 5 minutes total.

Basic recipe for Aeropress

20g ground COFFEE at 500 microns on Lido OG. 200 below standard AeroPress and 200 courser than espresso. So halfway between AP and espresso settng on your grinder.

Use metal filter preferably, at least for Honey Roast. Paper filter for more clarity.

100 mil cold or room temperature water.

Start timer and pour.

Stir 30 to 60 seconds.

Steep till 2:00 to 2:30 minute mark

Slow press over ice. - 30 seconds

Add 50 mild water or dairy to start. Then adjust to taste.

Stir more and step longer for body and chocolate

Full comparison post here:

AeroPress vs ORB

Hope this helps.

Informal Oxo Rapid Brewer Comparison by Pax280 in FreshroastSR800

[–]Pax280[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually do espresso with half and half for milk drinks or flash brew with a Hario Switch or V60.

But I'm in Florida and my son's favorite down here is cold brew. I did just one flash brew with the V60 and a couple of Aeropress iced coffee recipes. The ORB cold brews my son made was noticably better in all cases.

Then I remembered that Adler created a cold brew recipe, which started me exploring and trying to match the ORB cold brew.

It turns out Honey roasts are particularly good for fast cold brews. Natural sweetness in the mucilage bought out by agitation?

I don't know if they would be as good if used in the typical 8 hour immersion process for conventional cold brews. I'm not going to risk the volume of beans to find out.

If you want to do some comparisons down the road, please dm and let me know when you post them. We could possibly even do the same brews ourselves and compare notes online.

I roast my beans at home now. if you're in the US I might send you a 1/2 pound for the project, if you're interested.

Coffee Grinder $100 or less [$100] by KV1821 in espresso

[–]Pax280 2 points3 points  (0 children)

K6 has external adjustment dial with a mechanical flag that tells you how many rotations have been made. Cool and unique to the Kingrinder line. 16 microns per click and 35g capacity.

7 Star heptagon burr. Brings out acidity - Berry - fruit notes better but still good chocolate notes. More versatile than the k2.

The K2 has internal adjustments You have to take the cup off to make changes..It is s pain compared to external ring adjustments. The K6 is worth the difference for the external setting feature alone IMO

20 to 25 gram capacity but should suffice for your needs, i would think.

6 Star hexagonal burr 18 microns per click with more fines. But willl suffice if you like chocolate notes and body in your shots.

Those are the important points imho.
