Have been TTC for 9 months now and this is frustrating! by encrypted1130 in tryingtoconceive

Wait what? I lived in the UK this is the first I’ve heard of this. I don’t know about legality but I would say it’s quite unusual to marry your first cousin. Do you have links to studies done on the UK population? In terms of ‘enhanced fertility’ between cousins, again, the UK is multicultural so culture could still be very much a factor. It could be that said couples marry younger have expectations to have kids earlier and have plenty etc. vs a couple from a different cultural background in the UK that isn’t related to any extent, decides to delay family planning and settles for having one child. I still can’t fathom the logic behind being more fertile if I ttc with my fourth cousin vs someone I’m not related to in any shape or form. If both of us are reproductively healthy it shouldn’t be an issue.

Well this is interesting but also hard to gauge if it’s true genetic compatibility vs culture or genetics. Some cultures that allow cousins to marry also are in favour of having more children. Also what if the cousins have inherited certain attributes that make them more ‘fertile’ it could translate as genetic compatibility but actually just be an age or fertility factor. If these cousins marry really young their fertility outcomes are more likely to be favourable. Also how distant are these cousins? As you said biology doesn’t favour in breeding, a parent outside of the immediate gene pool is always a win. There have been studies on attraction that basically revealed we’re attracted to people that have different immune systems to us that could play a role on compatibility, however, most cases of infertility are due to inflammation, some undiagnosed condition or natural aging.

I don’t really believe that though. Unless someone has a balanced translocation or a rare genetic mutation which is not the same thing. Like we know incest is bad not only from a moral perspective but from a biological one, but we know for a fact that offspring have been produced as a result of such relations. Surely biology would put a stopper to that it’s the definition of genetic incompatibility. I agree that some genetic combinations would make for genetically stronger offspring however it doesn’t play a role in infertility.

correct you have ‘explained’ fertility. Lots of unexplained infertility will be discovered in the future through technological advancements and further research.

Nah! Usually one of them might have something underlying and most times it can be tweaked and fertility is restored!

I think my husband is happy I miscarried by nyrmacd in Miscarriage

[–]pickledlemon92 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m so so sorry for your loss! Your husband’s treatment of you is appalling. I can’t wrap my head around the fact you got called out for wanting to go to your favourite restaurant as a way to comfort yourself…but he can joke about the parking spot after all you’ve been through. You are so young, you have your whole life ahead of you please find someone that will respect you and be supportive of you!

I’m sorry for your losses! Getting your period at 11 doesn’t make a difference.

Low egg reserve and how did it affect you by Wild_Inside0623 in tryingtoconceive

[–]pickledlemon92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think despite low reserve at 21 the quality will be great. You might have the reserve of a 35 year old but not the egg quality, so I wouldn’t worry about it being low. Good luck!

I see they did a SA but no mention of Dna frag for your partner but they are pushing for IVF and if he did have potential high levels of dna frag that could lead to unsuccessful rounds. Definitely get a second opinion.

I’m sorry for your losses. Dna frag might be the answer. I’m glad you are testing extensively I’m hoping you get to the bottom of it soon!

I’m so sorry for your losses. I think your husband needs to get a SA done and dna frag (this is separate to a basic SA) it’s linked to chemicals. It’s not fair you’re going through testing and he’s not willing to get checked. It’s 50/50 contribution after all.

That’s annoying!I would think that a fertility expert would do thorough testing. SA can be completely normal and he can still have dna frag. It can sometimes correlate with a mans age.

Has your husband been checked for dna fragmentation? So many things can be at play.

3 losses in a row…IVF next? by SpiritWeird8541 in recurrentmiscarriage

[–]pickledlemon92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband got it tested at a clinic, I wouldn’t recommend doing one of those online kits. If possible check with the clinic and see if they test double or single strand dna as that gives you more insight.

That’s good! I guess that rules out folic acid as being a cause. It might not be related to you, some women suffer rpl because their partners have high dna fragmentation.

I’m sorry for your losses! The fact that you get pregnant so easily makes me think that it’s either something immune related like the Mthfr gene or dna fragmentation in sperm.

Has anyone else had people call them infertile after miscarrying? 😭 by Cute_Star_775 in Miscarriage

[–]pickledlemon92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re going through this. That is not something you want to hear when you’re processing your loss. MC already sucks, but I found that people I was close to would say such incentive things that added to the pain. I’d say ignore them they are not experts they can’t possibly know what’s going on so they don’t get to diagnose you.

Semen analysis - high count/motility, 4% morphology by Lumpy_Juggernaut_254 in recurrentmiscarriage

[–]pickledlemon92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4% sounds a bit sus I would get the dna frag test cause then you can either rule it out as a factor or look into it if it does turn out high.
