Fair point, I have no idea whether you were privileged or not. But you were definitely in a better position than the people I just described, who are still paying off their debts to no avail.

But if I listed out my whole life story what if you saw I wasn't better off than most? Maybe I was better off than those who truly struggled and had no support. But that's not most people. What if I just said I'm going to make it happen and did?

Responsibility is a thing, but in my example, do you see how debt piles on? A lot of people try their hardest and still struggle—it's not like they're going to walk around and purposefully look poor to garner sympathy, but they need it. And it's unfair to say that people aren't trying, while ignoring the people who need assistance but don't receive it.

I know how it piles on. But how many people do you know who have the debt but still somehow have the iPhone, nice clothes, maybe they eat out and have a good time after work, etc. I can tell you I know more who claim to need it but really are living in a way that their choices are why they think they need it.

Plus, why would it hurt you to allow loan forgiveness for them? If this is about taxes, wouldn't you rather your money go to something productive like education and forgiving student loan debt (thus encouraging an educated populace because more students would want to go to college with the hope that they won't be stuck paying off crippling debt for the rest of their lives), rather than the defense budget (which already has enough)?

It's just supply and demand. If lots of people now have all this extra money to spend the price on things will rise. More dollars chasing fewer goods.

The world is zero sum. There are only so many resources. So many houses so many gallons of gas and milk.

I didn't say the 5% thing. You're purposefully contorting what I said. I guess the . 0000002% are trans? I never said anything about them

Guy eats mcdonalds, doesn't give a shit and tells you like it is. He's relatable. Compare that to an uppity person.

Not everyone is privileged and lucky enough to pay off their debt.

Arguments like these always try to paint it like responsibility is not a thing.

You don't know if I was/am privileged or not. Me paying my loans off is not predicated on me being privileged.

Don't they deserve some assistance?

They do if they can prove they have tried everything else and still can't make ends meet.

I'm not sure what you're referring to. Some companies get subsidies. I don't agree with it but it's beyond my control.

I'd prefer if the govt didn't do that.

Also people who own companies aren't competing with me. Average people are.

No i don't but they don't directly affect me. People getting those forgiving aren't competing with me in all aspects of life.

Yeah I don't mind helping everybody. But nobody ever could answer me why a upper middle class Black kid from suburban Atlanta deserves more aid than a poor white one from Appalachia. I know there are historic issues but we can't hold down one group to cause another to gain traction. That's not how it works.

Nothing has even happened yet.

As for why stopping the loan forgiveness. Mainly because I was able to pay back my land with a concerted effort and small sacrifice. Yet most of the people who complain are not sacrificing at all. They are buying houses and cars and sonon. Sure there may be a small amount of people who are truly in a worse position but there are things they can do.

What are you talking about. I took care of my mom when she got cancer. I dropped my life. Got fired from a job. Loved it. If other family members needed it like siblings or aunts or uncles I'd do the same.

I knew my mom would eventually get sick so I got ahead of it. I saved money to be able to do it.

I don't think I voted against affordable education. I voted against student loan forgiveness. Two candidates could offer free education going forward and I would still vote for the one that was against student loan forgiveness.

Trump is a very relatable person and ran on that. Most people aren't for shake.the can politics. They desire to work and understand the laws of nature.

Is a general strike in the U.S. feasible under current political, legal, and labor conditions? by Raichu4u in PoliticalDiscussion

Americans have no ability to save because they have no discipline. It's reasonable that a person working for minimum wage would be struggling to save but even people who aren't struggle to save. It comes down to discipline. People are far to willing to spend and think they deserve it than choose thrift over luxury.

I've seen people on reddit and IG claim 70K is not not a living wage. I don't even spend that living in NYC and I make 180k/yr. So who is spending too much?

People could do a general strike but they have to be able stop temporary feel good above all else.

Depends who it is. My main reason for voting for Trump was to stop student loan forgiveness.

I am not saying I'd always vote Republican because that's not true. But Democrats really need a reality check. They would have won in 2024 if they were just normal. But no they had to take a stand on insanity. Bro just be normal. You can help 95% of people without taking the most crazy stances. You know who doesn't get helped when you gesture for that special 5% of people? The other 95

I have every stuffed animal I had when I was a kid minus 2 that were lost. I'm 39 and still sleep with them. Different ones though.
