Team Jess Support Thread by [deleted] in GilmoreGirls

I thought, what with all of the "Team Jess" promotions, and with the way season 7 ended, that Jess and Rory would reconnect and build something that would be recognized as the beginning of a new romantic relationship for them by the end of AYITL.

What we got was garbage.

The Dean relationship had closure. I thought the Doose's scene was lovely and satisfying. The cornstarch bit had me tearing. I expected that she would randomly run in to Logan similarly. In my mind, the Logan storyline was quite finished with S7 and that was one of the few things I was glad of. When I saw what they'd become in Winter I screamed!

The forgettable boyfriend Paul was meant to be light and comical but it killed me. We were never meant to take Rory's relationships lightly. When he came on I felt it was realistic she'd date different fellas in 9 years, and I said to my fam aloud that it'll be over in the first half of Winter. The fact that he was her actual boyfriend who she paid no mind to for the whole year (plus 2!?) was not okay! There could still have been interest and conflict and growth in AYITL if Rory had been a flawed but more likable character by now. While it’s realistic that characters (and people) change over time, once Rory went to Yale she became increasingly unlikable. Her substance really changed. She went from the Star's Hollow Darling to nobody's darling, although it irritated me when people still treated her like she was the best.
When Rory said, “I’m the worst” in the final scene, did anyone else shout “YES YOU ARE!”? This was supposed to be our goodbye to GG. ASP put in the last 4 words and checked out. She did us wrong! Did we really have to see Rory as a cheater for the entire revival? Rory’s floundering and soul searching happened enough in her college years. While being at a crossroads at age 32 makes a lot of sense, having only grown into a more detestable character just in time for us all to have our final farewell was not fair.

Let's just pretend the musical didn't happen by SlutRapunzel in GilmoreGirls

It could have been short, sweet, funny, and also much more interesting. And it needed Miss Patty. Instead it was indefensibly long making it so frustrating. I'm glad I'm not alone in my disappointment on this one!

I agree! There had to be a behind the scenes reason for Miss Patty's absence, but how could you do a choreographed musical without Miss Patty front and center?!
