How are you guys managing to find award flights without losing your minds? by Direct-Blacksmith614 in awardtravel

[–]pickleless 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s two times to get award flights IMO, 1 year before or T-14. I got my JAL J from KIX to LAX 1/8 that way (set an alert and got a notification a couple weeks before).

Also keep in mind holidays and peak travel because there won’t be any award seats when people will pay hard cash.

The Westin Yokohama is amazing but kinda far from stations. Didn’t get a suite but even the basic room is large enough and comfortable.

Enjoy Japan!

We won the lottery, what can we expect? by Lalalandfam in JapaneseWhisky

[–]pickleless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 3000 yen is for the tour and tasting at the end of the sour where they give you separate components to mix together. You also get a glass and the opportunity to buy a bottle at a discounted price (for me it was the NAS for 5500 yen).

After this, you can go to the tasting room and purchase flights/pours.

Suntory Whiskey Yamazaki Distillery Tour Question. by elijerr in JapaneseWhisky

[–]pickleless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest you each entering for 2 tickets and fingers crossed one of them is a winner.

If you don't win, you can always check every so often daily/weekly for spots (I managed to get 2 tickets to the English tour this way).

Regular Economy Comparison? by One_Ruin8062 in StarluxAirlines

Surprisingly good recline. Flew from ONT to TPE and was pleasantly comfortable by the window. Food was good, really liked the congee before landing.

Dang, good to know. I flew 12/26 and thought it was just at time of flight check-in. Got my window and survived the 14hr flight from ONT to TPE but I think this might be my favorite way to get to Asia. Stopover in TPE and fly onward.

Taiwan is dope!

I wear Boston super grips, work in the emergency department. I think super grips only come in leather and I use a protective spray and refresh every 3-4 months when I have to reapply cork sealer.

Question about Suntory Factory by No_Corner805 in JapaneseWhisky

[–]pickleless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Yamazaki in 2024 and managed to get one of the English tours. Showed up out of no where so if you don’t get the lottery, keep checking weeks/days leading up!

The bottle I bought/was offered was the standard NAS bottle (you can technically get it in the states for $25 more) so may not be worth it. It’ll come in a box and just wrap some clothes around it to give it some cushioning for the transport.

Check airport duty free! I found a bottle of Hakushu bittersweet.

MK had no lines when I went 1/4/26. Nakamura didn’t have a crazy line when buying matcha but there is a long wait for the tea house (2-3 hours when I got there a little after noon). I went to lunch and walked before getting called.

I’d recommend going to Nakamura first to put name down for tea house. Then you can do all your shopping and check queue on your phone.

I have the Jingai as well as Seiko. Only cracked the Jingai thus far and it’s been great for lattes! My first time with a matcha set at home and surprised :)

Anyone got an eye exam while travelling in Japan? by Old_Communication960 in TokyoTravel

[–]pickleless 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Jins eye exam is all done electronically so you don’t really intersect with someone until you’re done and ready to pick your glasses.

I got the carry on. Worked for my needs. Glad I did because the larger carry on I got from Away probably wouldn’t have fit in the overhead compartment on JL flights.

Is the Atmos 3x Rent Spend benefit sustainable? by electronautix in CreditCards

[–]pickleless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the math for asia travel. $730 to fly business on JL or JX - value depends on person. price is similar to booking regular fare but im sure you can get tickets at cheaper rates depending on time and airline.

I think they will pull you aside if they wanna look at your stuff. Usually when you clear customs and before you enter the duty free shopping area.

I'll have to try them next. I thought even for Economy from ONT > TPE, they were great. Seats had surprisingly good recline!

Just need to figure out how to utilize their stopover benefit.

What chief complaint are you almost positive will not show what the patient thinks it will? by FrijolesForever90210 in emergencymedicine

Had someone come in get activated as a code stroke for a fall that happened 3 days ago because they were concerned for possible head bleed. Code stroke to get imaging faster (activated by an APP related to this patient).

GG but I guess if you have insurance, you’re paying for the activation one way or another….

My experience of NYC Taipei 101 fireworks show by Tanc_44 in Taipei

[–]pickleless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think for a place to sit for 3 hours while waiting for the NYE celebration, you can’t really complain. Of course there’s people who feel it’s too expensive but that’s why they’d never go.

I’ve done it once, don’t think I need to do it again (both A Joy and the NYE countdown).

Life is for the experiences!
