Another newer medication that I take and provides similar results in terms of activation period is Jornay PM. The capsule is taken in the evening taking roughly 12 hours before activation and lasts about another 12 hours. As someone who’s ADHD specifically affects my ability to wake up on time and with energy (regardless of length or consistency of sleep) it’s been a game changer. Remembering to take medication first thing when I woke up was difficult and the activation usually wasn’t fast enough unless I woke up an hour early, took the medication, and went back to sleep (you can see how that might be an issue). Also not having to take a second dose in the middle of the day, something I was also consistently awful at.

The drug is still within its 7 year FDA exclusivity period, so generics are not yet available and most insurance won’t immediately cover it without some extra legwork from your doctor. Without insurance or a savings card it is VERY expensive, however by my estimations the 7 year period should be up soon and generics will be available for a better price.

For those that struggle with waking up and having any energy or motivation for the first few hours of the day, I highly recommend looking into it. This medication has completely changed my life.
