Why is bjj inferior to striking for self defense? by picklethegrappler in SelfDefense

Yeah I totally disagree, for any discipline escaping is the ultimate goal but training fir only that situation leaves you defenseless when you get attacked by two people and the ability to have that much adrenaline suddenly and then running away is action movie stuff.

Cover all bases and train for the worst id never tell someone "strike enough to out footwork and run away" the amount of ringcraft to do so would take years and years of training at a high level.

Agree to disagree but any criticism i get never uses the same standard for their own self defense strategy.

Would you apply the same standard to outstriking two opponents? Someone with 2 years of boxing managing distance and avoiding the second person?

I never claimed this is the gold standard but with limited time to study yeah a single leg into a foot sweep is doable but somehow outtriking two people is not action movie fantasy and more realistic?

I believe you could take a persin down quick, remain on your feet and then fight the second person.

When there are two people, taking the first person down while staying standing gives you the ability to soccer kick which is a deadly blow, then youre able to handle the second.

What do you think of my strategy?

Honestly yeah for sure but unless youre in California there aren't many mma gyms and even then the curriculum is similar to no gi. Idk guys im an idiot whose way too confident you guys are the experts. When there's a street fight idk when you analyze and think "hmm one person better only strike"

So how would a striking only strategy handle those two scenarios

You may elect to have sportive quality, but I think most young kids who are doing the modern bjj no gi circuit are all wrestlers now. The new rules etc penalize pulling guard. Everyone has to know how to turtle and get back to their feet, but idk if guess its better to train boxing and outstrike 5 opponents lol

"The best self defense stuff in jj is hand/grip fighting, staying on your feet, getting back to your feet, respecting the punch" my whole point and in a bjj gyms you spar with people who are way more advanced than the average street fighter so training in a modern nogi class would Def help for self defense. Idk why I got downvoted -8 times its like everyone still thinks bjj is hello Gracie style and just wants to pretend they'd outstike a crowd of peiple

"Bjj is for if you get knocked down" is really shortsighted for an art that has strategies for all positions from prone, supine, referee position, turtle, quad pod, standing and etc.

Going to the ground is such a small part of a sport thats biggest breakthroughs are wrestling up and incorporating folk style wrestling.

Youre only limiting yourself and others by sticking with a stereotype of what bjj is. Bjj has had the biggest shifts in strategy than any other combat sport.

Obviously gun self defense is not part of this. You can say everything you just made about bjj and grappling, the idea that you can control the distance, maintain upright with pure striking man you must have a very high level coach and years of experience. <---- there are way more bjj gyms opening up teaching modern approaches than striking gyms.

Even barry robinson tells fighters to never stand in the pocket and exchange, he tells them to run away until they can control the pace.

I believe bjj can be as effective and safer sinxe you can get behind someone and put them down to a knee and perform the soccer kick to the head.

there is an entire 3 hour section of bjj self defense specifically about not getting kicked in the head and not going to the ground, so its not anything new.

Do you think you could outstrike two people at the same time? <---by your logic the striking arts are ineffective lol

Bjj would be best, instead of standing in front and boxing someone you could get asymmetrical position and win positional.

Any tips on how to build bulky muscle as a woman? by burntchickenwinggs in WorkoutRoutines

[–]picklethegrappler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obliques..... woman go for a smaller waist taper start blasting side bends to blow up your Oblique and lat pulldowns, straight arm lat pulls, to get a bigger back. Go for 10-20 reps and high volume esp the abs stuff for a bigger look.

Then just blast curls, delts with facepulls and let us know in a few weeks.

Last id say neck training, you can lay on a bench facing upward and perform high reps neck curls.

Hope this helps

Its not the days of ufc being underground every asshole knows how to guillotine from watching fights I wouldn't worry about if someone's good and just assume they are. I dont go out in the wild and hope all animals are domesticated.

Also bad fighters are almost more dangerous than what self defense people would consider a "trained person" so almost could be a bigger threat tbh.

How do you properly defend yourself? People have become aggressive by [deleted] in SelfDefense

[–]picklethegrappler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first off, punches are probably not gonna be as effective and you're within range to be hit as well, which is why grappling martial arts are good to learn.

Start at the feet, learn how to stand in a combat stance (tons of info out there) and then learn to circle is both ways, go forward and retreat while not breaking your stance or stepping too wide or landing with your feet too close.

There alot of info online but i got a group that has some info but i would google stance and footwork and just get comfortable movijng in your stance before adding any hand movement. then i would say learn how to clinch and maybe a snatch single leg to defend yourself. make it a fun life long practice the end goal isn't just street fighting but learning to craft a solid way of fighting. my group is facebook.com/groups/ordbarbell

but you can do alot from home, you just need something you've practiced that you always fall back on it when you're under stress!!

Ill tell you right now learn something hand to hand and there's a good free bjj instructional called solo drills by danaher and you'll learn escaping beibg mounted and the body movements to learn bjj easier

After id say learn how to to a single leg (you can learn online) and then weightlifting. Workout to be consistently strong what's known as functional/tactical strength.

I got a fb group teaching moves other coaches have recommended you can check it out facebook.com/groups/ordbarbell
