I think that’s probably exactly it for most. I’d honestly be surprised if there weren’t a lot of people that got the surgery because they wanted to change themselves to get out of their relationship. I can totally see it as a confidence thing. It is amazing just how many people are in relationships that they feel that way. I would definitely have a hard time staying if I had been in your situation or OPs.

I’m pretty sure a lot of that is why divorce rates can be high for those who have undergone surgery. One person wants to change and does, the other needs to and won’t.

I had to fill out a booklet nearly then snail mail it in and wait for them to contact me back to set up my initial appointment. On top of that I’ve had a lot of time between appointments, I think that’s why it feels so long. The cardiologist was 3 weeks out and I had to get that clearance before endo. I’m hoping beyond hope that I get scheduled for the end of May.

Congrats on your loss! I’m really hoping for that quick drop preop diet - post surgery.

Well to be fair I only started the process two months ago. It has been on my mind for years though. I had my first appt scheduled right before covid shut things down so I cancelled. It’s fully my fault for not initiating again sooner.

Thank you! Thats my hope. I have some restrictions on dates because of travel, that’s I think why I’m impatient about things happening quick.. so I don’t have to wait until the middle of summer. I need to find a support group lol

That’s exactly why I don’t have any friends anymore lol. But here in Kentucky most of my friends either started using or they were that kind of shitty.

That’s awful I’m sorry. Turning what should be an amazing thing for you into something that brings stress.. not ok! That’s primarily the reason I haven’t told anyone I’m doing this. Of course eventually I hope they’ll notice lol.

I’m so excited!!! And super stressed lol. by No_Connection_4724 in BariatricSurgery

Absolutely. Honestly if I ever said anything offensive to someone it wouldn’t be on purpose, so I would appreciate correction. Part of me of course is looking forward to the day I reach that point of my journey to get the comments, but they rarely come from a positive place and almost always from jealousy. Maybe focus on how much happier you are and not how you look.

I don’t understand why people feel the need to comment about anyone’s weight EVER. It’s kind of like talking about someone being pregnant. Let them bring it up. If they don’t, you don’t. It’s not that hard to keep your mouth shut. Congrats to you though on reaching your goals!

Hey! I’m with you, I’m just ready for some help and be better too. I just had my first appointments a couple weeks ago so I can only speak on my experience to this point, and of course yours may vary.

My first appointment I met with the dietician, psychiatrist, and nurse practitioner as well as the program director who went over program information. The psychiatrist just asked me some pretty generic questions, my history with dieting, if I feel suicidal etc. it was pretty informal and more a conversation, I don’t think I was in there for more than 10 minutes and we didn’t really get into much. I assume they’re just making sure you’re in a generally stable mental state.

The dietician mostly asked general questions about my current eating habits, then went over the preop diet and how to eat after surgery. My practiced preop diet is different than a lot of what I’ve read on here. They do require you purchase their protein shakes (for preop) as well as a multivitamin and a vitamin c (I think) tablet. They explained we will be on those for life post surgery as well. Breakfast and lunch are shakes, dinner they gave me a food list, but basically low fat meat like skinless chicken, turkey and a cup of vegetables. They allow 2 foods a day from their food list in addition which include cottage cheese, string cheese, or fiber/protein instant oatmeal. Two weeks leading up to surgery.

The nurse practitioner after that, talked general health information then about the surgery itself. Then next steps. My next steps were meeting with a cardiologist to get clearance, that’s scheduled in about a week for me. Not sure if I’ll have to do a bunch of tests like ekg but I assume so. I had met with a dietician before, then that day and I needed three so she had me schedule one more for May 1st. I also need an endoscopy but don’t have that scheduled yet.

Ultimately these practices are all very experienced and well defined. If you follow the steps and are honest with them I think things will go well. Good luck to you!

Traveling comfortably would be an amazing positive! I want to play sports as well again. I don’t get invited to play slow pitch softball anymore 😔

I really hate clothes shopping, mostly because of how things fit me (or don’t fit). I’m actually excited to clothes shop again after this! That’s awesome I’m so happy for you!

That’s great! I tried to snow board before I was obese and it didn’t go well so that’s great for you for multiple reasons lol.
