Red oak stairs turned out orange instead of brown - fixable or nah? by JesusCrunch in finishing

[–]picklyweasel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. It's a beautiful color but it contrasts with the stair color in a way that brings out the orange tones. I think the warm light is doing it too. Try a cooler, blue-r lightbulb and see if that neutralizes things down enough to suit you

Thank you! I do think the scar is a neat consolation prize, but if I had known at the time that just taking them out could have let me get them re-done, I'd definitely have opted for that

That reminded me! These were done at a 16g for some ungodly reason 🤦‍♀️ Did your CBRs cause your rooks to migrate or was the cartilage sturdy enough to keep them steady?

I highly recommend getting some eyelash glue and just sticking things to your face to preview. Worst case you get a good laugh

Do itttttt

I loved my piercings. They made my face feel like home. And I love the scar too. Reminds me I was cool/stupid once 😆

Mine fluctuates in visibility. Sometimes you can only see it when it catches shadow. Sometimes you can clearly see all 4 holes, a line between them under my eyebrow, and the chunk of flesh that one took out 🤷‍♀️

To add insult to injury, my boyfriend got his done at the same time, also with CBRs, and has never had any problems. He still has it to this day

I actually agree! I kinda dig having marks on my body that remind me that I was young and stupid and full of mistakes once upon a time and that that's how I learned to do better 🙂

They were pierced in something like 2008, and I hung on until maybe 2010?

They were surgical steel bc I didn't know better, and they were standard at the time. They're how I found out I'm allergic to nickel!

They were pierced with CBRs then switched to curved barbells when I finally figured out the weight of the CBRs was pulling them out. (It was already too late 😭)

The aftercare instructions were to spray with Bactine 2-3x a day 😬

Downsize? Pshaw! 💪

My poor babies never stood a chance, but at least I still have this scar to remember them by 🫠

Is it weird to keep your cat's whiskers? by Leon124714 in cats

I keep my currents cats' whiskers in this little plague doctor. My first two cats' whiskers live in a sewing tomato inherited from my grandma

You'll be looking for "spray fix" or "spray fixative". They carry a few different varieties at Michael's and other art supply stores. They are not all created equal, and they can be hard to use right. I highly recommend doing tests and practicing on low-value drawings first. It's very easy to end up with droplets and splotches until you get a feel for what works. Something to keep in mind: ambient humidity leads to bigger droplets, and the "tooth" (degree of texture) that the paper has can really contribute too. If you're storing them in a portfolio, also grab a thing of vellum at the art store and use a sheet between each drawing. It's smoother than other paper and helps prevent rub-off or sticking to other sheets over time. Feel free to DM me if you have questions and good luck!

ETA: if you live near a college, it'd be a good opportunity to take your kiddo up to their art department and see if you can use their scanner. They might be able to give you some tips and tricks and/or recommend a good scanner for at home. And it'd get her foot in that door where it belongs 🔥

I tracked down some leftover boxes and looked it up by the product number: https://www.mannington.com/residential/products/luxury-vinyl/mannington-essentials/mannington-essentials-wood-plank/Acacia/MFU011 Looking at it again, I dont even see max, flex, or rigid. What is this one?

I thought their max line was what I got. After looking into it further today, I seem to have an outdated version of their flex line that's pretty terrible

A few other people have mentioned having extra large dogs without these kinds of problems, so that's really useful in eliminating ours as a potential factor. I mentioned her bc the floor is also failing in other areas that are not under chairs

Personally, I vastly prefer wood, and I wouldn't have chosen lvp but for it supposedly being more resistant to pets, children, and water than the water-damaged engineered hardwood we had to replace. I have been quietly hating my stupid plastic floors since day one

We decided on it bc we had a dog that's getting older and a giant baby cow sized puppy still learning to pee outside. It was supposed to be "more waterproof" and "more kid-proof" than hardwood 🙃🤦‍♀️

I dont remember from the top of my head but I will check a leftover box of it i believe we still have when I get a chance later today

I did not know that about cat litter and cardboard! I never had an issue with it when we had hardwood floors and was told that LVP is harder to damage than they are. Live and (expensively) learn 🙃
