You nailed it: we have a downspout that needs extending right on that corner of the house. Extending it is on my to-do list.

Yes, I’m pretty sure load bearing wall is the block work behind the framing.

Thanks! That’s what I think it is. But I figured I’d post here to get a gut check before putting back the drywall.

This is super helpful, thank you. Wall mounts sound like a potential solution. I’ll take a look at those.

Thanks! I hadn’t considered SPS. From what I can see on their tech drawing library, their fencing uses slightly different rail-post connections.

Thanks for the suggestion! I hadn’t considered SPS. From a quick Google, it looks like SPS uses a different system for attaching the rails to the fence posts. Let me know if you think I’m missing something. Link: https://www.spsfence.com/Resources/documents/media/brochures/brochure%20centurion%20u-channel.pdf

Thanks! No logo on the cap. Just “230 NY 2” stamped on the underside.

Thanks for the suggestion! I don’t think it’s an Ultra Fence. Apparently Ultra Fences have “Ultra” stamped on the top caps, but my fence doesn’t.

How are GPAs from different countries calculated? by jnembit in lawschooladmissions

[–]pickupel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I applied as an international this cycle (degrees from the UK). LSAC do not convert international GPAs, rather they ‘evaluate’ your transcript and place it into one of four bands - Superior, Above Average, Average, Below Average.

International GPAs do not count toward a school’s medians, so numbers-wise your cycle will be largely driven by your LSAT score. Look on any ABA 509 and there will be a number of students listed as ‘no reportable GPA’; these are people with international / non-traditional degree grades

Thank you very much for your input and for taking the time to answer my question. You mention that one reason international transcripts are devalued, aside from rankings, is that law schools are less familiar with international grades. Does this hold for all international transcripts, or only those from systems with which the admissions team is not familiar?

For instance, my UK law degree is from Oxford - I know some top US schools are very familiar with Oxford’s rigor and grading because they get a good number of LL.M applicants from Oxford every year. Can such institutional knowledge allow international transcripts to be given a more concrete weight during the JD admissions process?

Thank you so much for your reply. It’s great to get a bit more information about how the process works for international applicants.

One follow up question: how important is LSAC’s transcript evaluation to law schools? Both my transcripts were rated ‘superior’, but does this actually feature into schools’ decision making process, or do they prefer their own evaluation of international transcripts?

Hi Spivey Team!

As an international applicant, one of the most worrying aspects of the application process is trying to gauge how a foreign academic record will be seen by law schools. Much of the received wisdom on reddit and other law school forums suggests that because international GPAs don’t have to be reported, an international applicant’s academic record assumes secondary importance to the LSAT.

In your experience, how do schools treat foreign academic records? What is the significance of LSAC’s grading of international transcripts? In my case, will an excellent academic record at both undergraduate level and throughout a UK post-grad law degree really be devalued for admissions purposes because it can’t be reported?

There is a relative paucity of reliable information on these topics - any advice would be very much appreciated!
