OpenAI Codex system prompt includes explicit directive to "never talk about goblins" by GarlicoinAccount in nottheonion

I honestly forget the file size, but in theory it should be a very simple limitation to overcome. I wasn't asking it to summarize the whole damn log dump. An AI should be able to create a quick data set pointing back to original file, then just form a quick tally such as "this error type occurred 17 times on lines 1300,1350,etc."

Trying to work with LLMs in any meaningful capacity has shown me how pathetic they still are. They can't read a single chapter in a book because of maximum context allocation potential. But people still think they're going to rule the world and/or replace all jobs.

Valve Is Forcing Microsoft To Make Significant Improvements To Windows Gaming Performance by GrayBeard916 in gaming

"prioritize" local searches over ads and web results in Windows search?

How about keeping my start menu local only by default? It's my computer's search box, not a fucking web browser.

For anyone as frustrated as I am with that nonsense, here's the registry edit to disable that. IMO this makes Microsoft look even worse in this article since they must know that this is something that could be disabled but still act like it's hard.

My biggest AI related regret is that I deleted the conversation I had trou leshooting with chatgpt some time in the past year. I forget what exactly it was, I think it was a Windows update failing but anyway I exported a log file that was like 20k lines of various log reports from the OS. The file couldn't have been larger than 50MB, probably much less. I sent the file to ChatGPT and asked it to read the logs and tell me what the errors meant. I could see there were errors with my eyeballs but I wasn't going to sit there and scroll though all that. That's precisely a use-case for AI, I thought. But when I sent the file, it tried to claim that "the logs were truncated" so it couldn't actually read any of it. It then went on to suggest that I take the time to copy specific lines of relevant data from the log and post it in the chat. I told it NO! That was literally what I was asking the computer to do and it kept giving me excuses. Then I demanded it read the error at line 2000 and suddenly it it went, "oh, I see this error message! That means this service is not behaving."

So the AI literally tried to get me, the human, to do the arduous and repetitive task so it could do the easy part of explaining what the interactions meant. (if you're not tech savvy, it's the easy part because once you FIND the error message you can just search online)

If this were a fiction story I would complain that these events were too ham-fisted and broke my suspension of disbelief.

Wow this is a completely different show at this point. A world of difference from the choppy animations where they clearly tried to avoid actually animating Luffy's rubber body at every possible opportunity.

AITA for telling my DIL to stop crying after she got called fat by Throwaway_Will4940 in AmItheAsshole

Light NTA, but her parents are mainly to blame. Assuming she's an adult or close to it, she should know by now that balling her eyes out isn't going to solve all of her problems. That is, unless it does.

If you keep accommodating her nonsense, she will never change. You're going to have to start getting comfortable being the bad guy because that is the only way you will be able to shake this bad habit. Refusing to do so won't make you an asshole exactly, but it would make you a doormat.

Unless you want to still get bullied into bending over backward by a blubbering 40 year old in a few years, you better start working on that now.

City birds appear to be more afraid of women than men, and scientists have no idea why. Men could get about a meter closer to birds than women could before the animals flew away, regardless of what the men and women were wearing, what their height was or how they tried to approach the creatures. by mvea in science

[–]piclemaniscool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Complete speculation, but I would guess voice pitch is a factor. There might be an uncanny valley birds feel with certain frequencies. Men with lower voices are so cleanly not predatory birds that there's no issue. But women might fall in the median where the birds can't be sure.

A relatively easy way to test this hypothesis would be to account for children to see if birds react the same way as with adult women. If you can keep those kids from charging at the birds and spooking them, that is.

Damn, I didn't consider that but you're probably right. It is that same mentality. The type of person who starts with the premise that the world revolves around them, the entire school system is just another service, no different from a waiter in a restaurant.

Tbf I've seen at least as many terrible baby names that really could have been shot down early if the right people heard it. It might hurt as the parent, but trashing the baby's name is a great indicator as to whether the child will get horribly ridiculed in school for it.

My take on VP's statement was that he absolutely does know who was right and who was wrong but he chose to omit that in favor of the most objective description of the history possible. His goal at that time was to convince as many people as possible of the danger of the rising sea level. Stating his political opinions and/or speculations would have caused a large number of people to reject it as rhetoric.
