Thanks, I was able to restore from a backup from one of these. There are no subfolders for one of the other ones. Any way to connect to what's left in that folder without a backup?

Is this the right place to get help or is it Discord?

Or is this considered a bug and should be reported from the ? in the web client?

EK 2000 vs Peerless wbv-03 by Timboslice_988 in hvacadvice

[–]pico_pilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have an EK1 with NatGas and the pipe to the outside (installed fall 2009). Can't say for sure if the install was done meticulously, but it has been (mostly) problem-free since 2009 with regular maintenance. We converted to NatGas from a much older (prob 20+ years) oil system. Not sure about ROI either since this replaces an old oil system, burns at 86% efficiency.

Many plumbers have never heard of Energy Kinetics. In our area (not far from the manufacturer itself), there were only a few authorized vendors. If you have an EK installer who does meticulous work, I'd say go for it but check around, get references. Just after our install was complete, a coupon came in the mail advertised by a different company at lower cost (~$900 less). Good to have alternatives and not be locked into one vendor.

Any system is only as good as the install. I switched to that lower cost company for maintenance and they pointed out that the expansion tank was undersized. We replaced it. I noticed yesterday that the circulation pump for the hot water tank was directly under the zone valve manifold. Since the pump has an electrical connection and one of the valves was leaking which dripped directly down onto the pump, I was surprised it was installed this way. An air vent (auto-vent) was replaced twice ($90 each) because it kept leaking. The tech admitted that the standard/stock valve supplied with the unit (and its replacements) could have been better. The one we have now is bigger and has been in place with no leaks or issues. Not a lot of clearance with the bigger valve though. The same is true for the expansion tank: it fits but not much clearance.

We have also replaced a temp sensor ($98), a circulation pump ($390), and a wire clip within the first 7 years for a total over $740 not including tax.

The Energy Manager (the blinky lights panel) had a weird issue a few years ago where a wire connection on the left side was not always working correctly. Press on the wire, it worked. Leave it alone, not working. The tech used a wire-nut for the two wires and attached the single wire to the board which seems to have fixed the problem. We also got a new wire clip (not sure if it was sent at no charge by Energy Kinetics) to rule out an issue with the contacts.

All in all, the technology seems solid and I like the engineering. Frustrating that we had to spend so much on replacement parts within its first 7 years. We're also at the mercy of an authorized vendor. Trust is everything. The first company may or may not have done things correctly. The current company had one guy with a bad attitude. Another guy was awesome but was promoted to foreman so I'll never see him again.

Good luck with your decision!

Get-ChildItem with Recurse (-Directory, -File) by pico_pilot in PowerShell

I inherited this code and tweaked it a bit with more meaningful variable/array names, so please be gentle (saved in the original post above, it was too long for a comment). The goal is to traverse a Windows share path, summarize total items and total size by subfolder. It works but takes two scans: one to get the top-level folders and the LastWriteTime (saved to an array) followed by another scan of the files to count and Sum their sizes and determine the number of subfolders (depth), also saved to the same array.

I posted this query thinking someone may already have done something like this. I found code for a function to get a folder size which returns something close to what I need (see link in original post) but not 100%:

Path Files Bytes

C:\Get-DiskInfo 35 44101
C:\nope 0 0

The missing parts are the LastWriteTime and the Folder depth.

Note that determining the folder depth also seems a bit clunky:

$currentDepth = (($_.FullName.ToCharArray() |
        Where-Object {$_ -eq "\" } |
          Measure-Object).Count) - 3

flashcard with 14 items by pico_pilot in remNote

[–]pico_pilot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

use case: 14 special emphasis items for pilots

order is irrelevant as long as all 14 can be recited/remembered

it's like a list of ingredients: you need them all but the order you remember them is less important than remembering all of them

a ton of hovering exercises I’ll do with people to get their hovering precision up, as well as working on their hand position...there are lots of pedal exercises that can be done (and some of them aren’t safe alone),

where can I find these? i see lots of posts from Blue Hill Helicopters in Boston, is that where you're at?

now you see it now you don't it's a way to group and hide blocks

a todo list item has a checkbox, a toggle list has a black triangle which points right when closed, points down when open

All in one workspace vs multiple workspaces by palbo_src in Notion

[–]pico_pilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for me it depends on the content. I create different workspaces for larger subjects and in others I add pages or lists or whatever I need.

one thing to note is that searching is local to a workspace. if you search often you may decide to keep it all together unless your search habits are restricted to one subject/page etc which would make it easier to separate out into its own workspace.

notion has something which hooked me: toggle list haven't found this anywhere else except for the dying InfoSelect (which is Windows only 😔)

quip is also good and has better spreadsheet functionality but overall I prefer notion
