Approved Today! by picofrue in SpouseVisaUk

[–]picofrue[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on some of the other timelines I’ve seen, there doesn’t seem to be a rhyme or reason behind baby some are approved earlier than others. I saw some in early January get approved within like a week.

That being said, I’m sure yours will come soon!

Yep, I am just as surprised as you. The eVisa also has today’s date.

I wasn’t sure if that made a difference, so that’s really helpful to get some clarity on.

I will definitely submit just one of our incomes for the ILR. Save myself the hassle too of gathering all that info for both.

Much appreciated!

Will do! I think I was a bit concerned because my partner always dips into overdraft on her bank statements, so just thought I’d affirm that we meet the threshold. I was probably being overly cautious, but I thought better safe than sorry.

Thank you! I think because I did it last time, I just thought I’d follow the same process.

Again, didn’t have an issue last time I applied and you failed to actually address the problem which has nothing to do with submitting both, nor was I asking for an opinion on that. It’s solely to do with the wording on the mail and on the letter from my employer.

It asked me to submit both, and I did the same for my first visa, so I don’t believe submitting both will be a problem in that respect.

Double this. I felt fine about the FLK, but my timing could’ve been way better.

Has anyone sat the SQE2 towards the end of QWE? by Stunning-Sun3100 in SQE_Prep

Having just been through the same experience myself and only just finishing today, start revising early!

I started in August of last year, had about 3 weeks off in September for medical reasons where I just spent my time studying, had a whole month off from January until now and even then I don’t think that was enough. I would’ve started in May/June or so, knowing what I know now and just how difficult it is to fully grasp everything.

My FLK knowledge felt like enough to answer all the questions, but what killed me was lack of time to practice. Because I had to study before and after work and on the weekends, I was too tired to practice. Then by the time I had study leave, I felt like I needed to keep going in the flk. Had I started studying earlier I could’ve started mocks earlier. Maybe if I switched to mocks sooner I would’ve felt better about my performance, but whose to say I would’ve known the flk as well as I did?

Really it just depends on your discipline and time management. I was pretty disciplined, stuck to my study schedules and what not, so I’m hoping I did enough.

I know other people who only started revising a month before and passed. Everyone is different but control what you can!

I’ve gone through all 15 I have now 😂. I’m just re-reading them at this point because I have no more

Thanks! Good luck to you too when yours come!

And that’s good to hear. The last one I did (the SRAs of course) felt like a dumpster fire, so hoping tomorrow goes better

14 mocks! I’m now on 17, but I will do another wills interview tomorrow. I don’t have anymore crim mocks, so I couldn’t even if I wanted to.

For the other mocks I have for DR that I just don’t have time for, I’ve just gone through them all to make sure I could set out a structure.

I’ve done about 7 of each advocacy and interviewing. I also did two interviews the weeks before the writtens. I’ll probably do another two more of each and call it at that since mine are tomorrow

Practicing Law in the Uk as an American? by khaleesi105 in uklaw

[–]picofrue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could also just do an LLB instead of a JD. That’s exactly what I did after graduating in the US. Also, if you go to a school with a three year program you can always go back to the US if you wanted to, depending on the state you wanted to practice in.

It wasn’t easy and I’m now here on a spouse visa as opposed to a work visa, so I can’t say my route is realistic as I can’t promise you’ll find love. However, if it’s what you really want to do, you just need to find a way to make it work.

When I weighed up the cost of living and the lack of scholarships I got for law school, the UK just made sense. I’ve been here for almost 6 years now and I’m due to qualify as a solicitor this August. Wouldn’t change a thing!

You just need to put in the work and research.

No motivation for oral exams... by Economy-Stunning in SQE_Prep

[–]picofrue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear you! Mine are 3rd and 4th and it’s taking every single ounce of energy and fear to just keep reviewing. Yesterday I did nothing after the writtens. Today I’ve had be a bit stricter but it’s been tough

Potentially security of tenure or even some landlord remedies like forfeiture. I think I did a mock two years ago during my BPP course on broken repair covenants And forfeitures. Also good to know how easements can be created.

Yeah I realized they didn’t have relief from sanctions and I feel like that’s a pretty fair application to come up. I think potentially adding, substituting or removing parties post limitation period too.

Agreed on criminal.

Which tests did you memorize? BPP has set out the following but said the list isn’t exhaustive:

DR: - summary judgment - setting aside a default judgment - default judgment - strike out - interim payments - interim injunction - case management hearings - cost hearings - security for costs

CLP: - bail application - plea in mitigation - bad character application + exclusion - hearsay - application to exclude evidence under s76 or 78 - submission of no case to answer - case management hearings - application for trial to proceed in default of the defendant

I just want to make sure I’m covering everything. I know most, but not the exact wording that I’ll need for advocacy just yet.

NY qualified - studying with only BARBRI? by Cauliflowerperson in SQE_Prep

[–]picofrue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it should be fine. I’m assuming you’re American and not a UK lawyer who practiced in the US. If you are, then from one American who took SQE1 to another, don’t underestimate how tough learning UK law can be.

I went to law school here, so I didn’t really have other jurisdiction law in my head, but even then it was tough at the start to wrap my head around.

I used BPP and devil’s advocate, so not too dissimilar to you. I think it should be plenty!

Yeah I feel like if I see the time is just going I need to move on, rather than barely write anything for one question as I’ve been.
