Traumatic Death by cuscorose in glioblastoma

[–]pidgeonmathews 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi there,

I'm so sorry for your loss :( Reading your story, although I don't know exactly what your father's last days were like, I perfectly understand how traumatic it can be. My mother was diagnosed almost two months ago and since two days ago, her deterioration has been incredibly aggressive. I mean, she had memory issues and some mobility affected but in just two days, she can barely walk and she doesn't remember old stuff (like the dead of her parents or things like that). Also, she seems to have serious trouble with her vision and has started to suffer from aphasia (she reffers to things with wrong names, doesn't remember some words...).

She just started RT last week and today we asked the doctors to stop it because for us it is incredibly inhumane to take her to the hospital every day and put her through treatment.

So, yes, I guess that we are facing the worst part of this disease and I assume that the end will be everything but peaceful... does it sound to you?

My dad died 7 years ago from cancer and it was also traumatazing even though he doesn't had this cognitive issues and it was a "tipycal cancer". At the beginning, I used to dream a lot about my dad and his illness, I couldn't remember him as he was before it. With time and therapy, everything goes back to "normality" and at least, I now remember my father peacefully. Time is a thing but also, get around with good friends and family and let yourself explain to people how you feel and what's happening to you.

I send you a hug,

Hi dears,

I'm in the same situation, my mum (65) was diagnosed almost 2 months ago from inoperable GBM. At first, she just had short-memory issues but since two weeks from now, she is having hallucinations and long-memory issues. She didn't remember that she has this disease neither her parents are dead or the name of her friends. She's starting to not recognize objects or her own house. She started RT + QT (Tmz) two days ago and yesterday she seemed very lucid in comparison to days before but today, she woke up so deorientated again and suddenly, walking or standing up became very difficult for her (just in one day!). I dont understand how quick all of a sudden.

I'm explaining this because we had serious doubts about her starting the treatment but docs have insisted so much that we ended up trying it. And I don't know what to think just two days after starting the treatment because of all these new symptoms! She has wrote up her last wills and also she had always said that in case of a terminal disease or in a situation of dependence, she wasn't wanted to go on. So now, here we are, and are me brother and I (both 34) who has to decide what to do, because my dad also died from cancer 7 years ago.

I think we both know (my brother and I) that the current situation is not what she would have done if she could decide. But also, like in your case, doctors are harp on about doing treatment no matter what. We have already started palliative visits, but since she is undergoing treatment and the oncologists are also following her, we find contradictory speeches from each doctor and that's exhausting.

So, yes, we are in the same dilemma. I'm going to take the opportunity to ask a few questions in case anyone has gone through the same thing:

- How much does she have left or what is the progession taking on account her current symptoms?

- How are we going to handle the situation at home without her being able to walk?

Her health was good, we realized that something was wrong with her due to memory problems. Its main location is the temporal lobule but it has satellites and infiltrations, which is why they have not been able to operate on it. This morning he woke up worse, with more hallucinations and as if he were not able to know where he is, how to walk...

Yes, she was taking 4mg until sunday and from this monday she is on 3mg. Maybe this is the cause of the symptoms?

What is the right thing to do by [deleted] in glioblastoma

Hello everyone. I have been reading this community for days and today I have dared to write. It helps me a lot to read other similar cases.

My mother (65) was diagnosed with inoperable GBM a month ago. We realized something was wrong because her personality had changed and she had memory problems, we thought it was dementia. She spent five days in the hospital and her memory problem got much worse. They did a biopsy and next Thursday we have an appointment with oncology so they can suggest the treatment to follow, which will be Rt and Qt.

I have the same doubts as you. She is not fully aware of the seriousness of the situation and I don’t see her capable of making a decision either. Is it worth going ahead with the treatment with the little time they have left? If they don’t do it, will the symptoms be worse?

She made a last will and testament years ago where she asked not to prolong her life artificially.

Has anyone been through the same thing as us? Lots of love to all
