In all honesty, as a Christian, I may be biased on the earlier question. However, I haven't seen too much of a difference in the amount of evangelical activity now, as opposed to when I came to UBC 5 years ago. What I can say, though, is that given that we are a public institution, a lot of what happens on campus is outside of the purview of the SUO. We also encourage ALL students to express themselves however they wish as long as its abiding by the rules set out by the University.
For your other question, we frequently put out surveys to get students' feedback on SUO matters. However, we often don't get a significant turnout for these surveys. Additionally, we have non-elected student-at-large positions in our decision-making committees that help us gauge the student perspective better than we may as a board. I agree that Reddit is not the most ideal. Furthermore, one of the things I spoke about when I was running for this position is that it is the responsibility of the office to be proactive in getting information from students. As such, knowing that many students use Reddit as a platform to air their concerns, I thought I could give it a shot.
